he new age changes in technology and interactive methods play
a very important role in how a student learns. With plenty more
inventions coming up, it makes a huge difference in the learning
capacity of the student. They also become capable of retaining
information for a longer duration. The teachers also play a significant
role in the students’ learning process. The ones who are observant,
responsive to queries and also work on implementing innovative
teaching styles, find that their students are more interested in the
subject. It’s all about making things thought-provoking, fun and guiding
the youngsters towards their goals.
Teaching is an art that requires its own level of thinking outside-the-
box. The utilization of resources available today such as mixed media,
gamified content as well video clips all up the ante in a classroom. By
doing so, the advantages are plenty and are ideal for the student’s
mental and academic growth. When youngsters today are taught to
use any form of interactive technology, the communication levels
amongst their peers as well as the teachers rise. A whiteboard is the
most basic thing one can use to share concepts with the entire
classroom. The teacher can assign each student with a specific topic
which they can hold a presentation about in class. This can initiate
collaborative efforts among students and this way they also learn
different perspectives about a single topic. These ideas and qualities
are ideal for their future steps towards an independent life.

NA big Hello to all.
So simple yet so complicated. Many of us know that the
above are just greetings in different languages. Most of us
know that each of those greetings belong to a different
language, but maybe only a handful of us would be able to
read and write fluently in each of the language.
It is said that almost 40% of the world population speak
only one language, people speaking in two languages is
close to 43%, so on and so forth but the people who can
speak in 5 languages fluently is less than 1%. Isn’t it
surprising that when language is an integral part of our
existence then why only a few can speak in more than 3
languages? We are not born without a culture and culture is
language, we need language to think, to express, to read, to

18. write as a matter of fact even to dream we need language. It
is the most earnest form of expression.
When a baby is born, it just needs to express and the mother
knows exactly what the child needs without the child
mentioning it in words. Language is not merely words or a
pattern of letters put together; it is expression and
expression from the soul. Thus the language reaches
another soul. It is not just a way of communication as it
never depends on a set pattern of letters it is a means to
reach out to people to understand people.
The history of languages goes far beyond our research and
imagination. No one can really pin point and say that this is
from where languages came into existence. Yes there may
be certain facts attaches to it. It all began with relating a
sound to a symbol. A bird singing so the sound of the bird
attached to the name of the bird. If we go by numbers and
facts there are more than 6,000 spoken languages in the
world today but 2,000 of the languages have less than a
1,000 speakers and Mandarin is said to be the most popular
Then the question arises that is it possible to learn or know
so many languages. not really but knowing more than one
language gets you closer to understanding yourself and the
other person with a better perspective.
It helps you think with a wider vision and opens the doors
to other cultures. They say that until you know another
language it is difficult for you to understand your own
language. Adaptability is something that is deteriorating
these days; with the growing presence of social media we
are turning ourselves into shells and like living in the virtual
world. But when you know the language you feel at home
anywhere in the world. Knowing more languages or being
multilingual has its own advantages. it helps you to get
closer to the other person immediately without
apprehension. Like very aptly said by Nelson Mandela“If
you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to
his head but if you talk to him in his language that goes to
his heart.”
As today we say the globe is coming closer so it is all the
more important to reach the hearts of people and not just
minds. A multilingual person can exactly do that . reach
hearts. so is successful and has better adaptability. He is in a
position to understand his culture better as he knows about
other cultures. so in a way knowing other languages gets
you closer to your own. Today we teach our children to
speak in may be the language of the world, we want our
children to be fluent in maybe English as it is the language
commonly spoken by all outside, but while doing that we
somewhere neglect our mother tongue and somewhat take
pride to mention that my child speaks only in so and so
language and does not understand the mother tongue as we
do not speak the same at home.
It is very important for us to get our children familiar to our
mother tongue as only through that the child will learn to
appreciate other languages and prepare a roadmap for the
future. Having the knowledge of multiple languages gives
the child a strong base for his growth along with opening
many opportunities for the future. A multilingual person has
better memory, undoubtedly a better vocabulary, improves
listening skills, better communication skills ultimately
leading to prosperity.
Knowledge of more languages will always end up in long
lasting and meaningful friendships as when you know the
language you have a better understanding of the
background and culture of the person….it is like possessing
another soul and when the soul is connected the relationship
turns out to be more meaningful and long lasting.
“Language exerts hidden power, like a moon on the tides.”
- Rita Mae Brown
Let language break all the boundaries and bring the world
together, make it a happier place for the generations to
come. Let’s take a pledge to learn more than one language
and make this world into a new world.
“Learn anything you can, from anyone you can; there will
always come a time when you will be grateful you did.”

22. Our life is what our thoughts
make it.” - Marcus Aurelius
The human mind is capable of
various things that are beyond
imagination and till date, it holds
various mysteries that are yet to be
unraveled. The most impressive fact is
that an organ such as the brain is
capable of devising and developing
every idea that exists in the world
today. But these ideas are a result of a
variety of thoughts and just pondering
over those thoughts constantly. This
quality is something that is naturally a
part of the human mind’s design, but in
a world automated with technology,
everything is left to just that. People
have been putting lesser efforts in
thinking up ideas but are instead
depending on the internet which is a
result of technology. This very process
is known as Metacognition which
portrays an awareness of the cognitive
process within the mind.
The Functioning of Metacognition
On a normal basis, the brain and over a
100 billion neurons process a truckload
of information at over 200 times per
second which is incredible for the
body. This is how the mind is able to
multi – task while keeping itself alert.
The process of metacognition involves
allowing students to find a spot where
their thoughts can function better. And
this can be implemented into every
single aspect of life and any subject be
it mathematics, problem solving or
reading skills. The process of
metacognition can help in developing
and strengthening any weak points a
person may have. Though varied, the
learning strategies can be
supplemented by making students
aware of using their thoughts to
acquire real knowledge.
Keeping these factors in mind can help
the students in understanding how their
strengths and weaknesses work. A lot
of them tend to focus better in
environments such as libraries or open
grounds. Allowing them to do so, will
encourage their thoughts to function
effectively. Self-awareness is also an
important aspect of metacognition as it
plays a vital role in improving students
learning due to the ability to think
increasing with age. Research says that
most of the youngsters metacognitive
ability develops between the age
12 – 15.
Varied Levels of Thought
Development Process
When a popular author said that
thoughts help in creating things, he
knew the very power of human
thoughts. These words speak of how
thoughts if developed and used in the
right way can create a plethora of
positive opportunities. This will help in
keeping change constant. The current
shift in the way the education system
works stresses upon how students need
to work on their thoughts. It inspires
students to be self-regulated learners
and figure out the art of independently
learning new things. Metacognition
also urges youngsters to critically
analyze their own thoughts in order to
overcome adverse situations or
occurrences. In a fluctuating world, we
hear of how the future generations will
be working jobs that are only just
being invented. This will require
students to put up extra efforts with
regard to their mindset. In order to help
boost metacognition levels, one needs
to keep in mind the three stages.
The first phase involves planning,
where the pupils are made to think
about the educative goal the teacher
has set. This is meant to enable them to
find a way to approach the upcoming
tasks along with different strategies to
tackle them. Each stage of this phase is
targeted towards maximizing one’s
own productivity and in the process
think of the preparation to be done in
order to execute things effectively. The
second phase known as the monitoring
phase involves the learners
implementing the plan thought of
previously and observing its results.
They have to make sure to stay on the
track in order to earn their goals. The
final stage is the evaluation stage. This
helps in determining if the strategy
implemented was successful or not.
This gives people the opportunity to
analyze how their thoughts could’ve
been much better and what could’ve
been done to improve them. It will also
allow them to adapt to different
circumstances in the future.
The Knack of Enhancing
Metacognition
As mentioned, it is essential that
students are taught that their minds are
wired for growth. By teaching them to
think over their thoughts, it helps them
develop a flexible mindset and they
engage in more positive thoughts. In
order to help them upgrade this ability,
it’s good to encourage students to keep
thought journals where they can record
their thoughts. This will help them
filter through the positive and negative
ones. They can also record a number of
questions which speak of how their
thoughts functioned in a particular day.
It functions as an analytical as well as
empowering tool to help the students
think better. A lot of research studies
show that when a person develops a
growth mindset rather than a fixed one,
it results in reflective thinking.
Another method to augment one’s
metacognition skills is to use what is
called a wrapper. It’s a short break
between an ongoing activity. For
instance, prior to a lecture give the
students a couple of tips on listening to
the session actively. Post the lecture,
test the students by asking them to
recollect what was taught and ask them
to write down the ones that they
remember. This will allow students to
analyze how accurately they remember
their thoughts during the session. This
technique not only reduces
metacognitive skills but also increases
learning. The teachers can then
implement more of such activities
pertaining to bigger issues such as
politics or poverty. This will train them
to think of social issues and causes in a
positive light and ensure the right
actions.
This quality if constantly worked upon
can be a boon to people as individuals
as well as a group. After all, as the
saying goes, it’s always better to think
twice before one acts which is much
better than encountering an error in
thoughts.

26. ur greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is
Oalways to try just one more time.” -Thomas A. Edison
Motivation is a factor that depends on the day to day life of an individual. There are
some days where situations just don’t agree to the current timeline. A lot of students
maybe facing issues at home or at school or college that maybe making them feel a
sense of being unmotivated. In such situations, teachers find it extremely difficult to
bring up the levels of motivation in class. Such situations then tend to be contagious
where the energy levels of the entire class may drop. It may also be observed that a lot
of times, the error of mistaking motivation for convincing the person to push
themselves, may not lead to improvements. So, to bring some change during such a
time and to try and help the student loosen up a little, it’s essential to go into the
depths of it and see why a student doesn’t feel motivated.

27. The educator needs to consider three
factors that maybe the cause of
dropping motivation namely -
• Autonomy – This generally means
the need to feel being or
responsible for their own actions.
In case of an unmotivated student,
they maybe feeling a sense of
immense pressure or they may be
feeling like they’re pushed beyond
their capacity.
• Competence – The necessity of
feeling capable or that they’re good
at a task. There are various
instances where a student maybe
feeling like they’re lacking in some
manner or aren’t able to properly
complete a certain task. They
maybe filled with doubt and
constantly question if they’re up
for the task.
• Relatedness – This is a factor
where an individual feels like
they’re valued members of a
certain group. A student who is not
feeling motivated enough may feel
like he doesn’t belong and may feel
disconnected from the group.
Understanding and trying to find any
of the root cause of these above, can
in turn assist in bringing out a
solution that can help the student or
the entire class.
Understanding True Motivation
and it’s Implementation
Real motivation, the one that comes
from within an individual and not
just externally may not build up
through just convincing. After all,
motivation isn’t just about elevated
enthusiasm or compliments. It isn’t
about harsh consequences either, it’s
about providing inspiration which
always stems from within an
individual. The tutor needs to tap into
an individual’s inner potential and try
to re-ignite it which is where their
inspiration will turn into motivation.
There are various methods that can
be used to build up a students’
motivation and maybe beneficial to
not only the individual but the entire
class as well.
1. Focus – The teachers can start by
pulling away from the norms and
shift their focus towards
motivation. There are various
classroom remedies or
methodologies that are available in
general to work on this cause. But
if the students’ aren’t in a state to
cooperate the efforts may be in
Editor's Musing

28. vain unless the focus is primarily
shifted onto motivation. This makes
things simpler, helpful and effective.
2. Beating Records – There are
various instances where a
monotonous school or college
routine may tend to feel just that –
repetitive. But bringing in a small
fun element into the same routine
works in piquing a students
interests. One of the ways can be
by using a timer and asking the
students to complete a part of the
task. It may be finding a certain
number of words or carrying
certain calculations in a set time.
This can work as a shift in daily
routine and instantly gain
everyone’s attention.
3. Inspiriting Collaborations Between
Students – Young students tend to
be extremely social but there are
various factors that may throw
them off the grid. They may lower
their communications between
each other and this may disrupt the
harmony in a classroom. One
method that works the best in
avoiding such situations and at the
build the motivation levels is by
conducted group activities or
projects. This can help boost
communication between each
other and instantly build some
positivity among them as well
while boosting up their moods.
4. Encouragement – A key factor in
motivating the students into
something even bigger. The ideal
work habits such as being attentive
throughout class and increased
productivity don’t entirely
describe the true potential in a
person. But, when a tutor sees
them showing any of the above
qualities, giving them a well
deserved compliment maybe ideal,
especially if a student has been
feeling unmotivated for a long
time.
5. Physical or Practical Tasks – An
activity that involves creating
something such as art work or a
clay figure can be fun once in a
while. A history class can involve
small skits to depict an important
historical event. This brings some
cheer and interest into class where
students involve with each other,
build their own source of
inspiration and in turn find their
motivation levels rising.
It’s important to note that motivation
in may cases cannot be forced out of
an individual. It builds up with time
and shows up gradually which is
ideally the best way to do so. This
ensures that a person slowly comes
out of their blocked mind space and
finds their breakthrough moment. T R

30. IMPACT OF ADVANCED
TECHNOLOGYIN EDUCATION
Advancement in science and technology has
affected every aspect of our lives. Right from
newspapers (e-news) to business to social
relations it has shown its presence everywhere globally.
Technology has captured almost every field, may it be
our day to day life, education, social life or even
traditions and beliefs apart from mainstream fields like
engineering, medicine, administration law and
management. The presence of advanced technology in
the education has transformed the way we teach and
learn to a great extent. With the help of technology ,
transfer of knowledge and information has become easy
convenient and effective. Internet is a huge source of
knowledge and information in every field and is a store
house of the same. With high speed internet anyone can
access any type of information on a click of a button.
ICT is a form of technology widely used in the
dissipation of knowledge and successful implementation
of this with various teaching aids has led to a positive
impact on education. It has led to the promotion of active
learning including learner engagement in contrast to
memorization based or rote learning. These tools help a
great deal in the circulation and analysis of information
obtained by examining students’ performance and helps
percolate the same to the students and their parents. It
has eased distant learning making class room learning
and old fashioned concept.Distant learning has helped
students learn at their own pace any time of the day at
any place. Creative learning through ICT haspromoted
creation of new knowledge resources helping students to
come up with novel concepts based on earlier research.
Integrative learning approach has led to eliminating
separation between theory and practicals. Students can
learn through examples or demonstrations shown to them
in the classroom with aid of visual tools. Digital
cameras, projectors, training softwares, power point
presentations, 3D tools, models help grasp concepts
easily. Since learning is process which involves three
major organs, eyes, ears and the brain, visual
explanations through audiovisuals have made learning
joyful improving the imaginative power of learners.
Technology has led to globalization helping students of
different states and countries meet their counterparts
through video conferencing without leaving classrooms.
Online seminars and webinars allow learners and learned
come on a common platform to exchange knowledge.
Distant learning has been a boon for many online courses
offered by foreign universities wherein students enroll
online and peruse course with relocating thus
overcoming geographical limitations.In Pharmacy
education, databases, simulatory models, analytical and
statistical softwares have accelerated research many
folds. Online data management and patient reports have
facilitate doctors and pharmacists from distant places to
discuss issues and put forward opinions for betterment of
patients.Reporting ADR’s and checking of drug safety
information data has become effortless due to various
interfaces available online in the form of apps and
websites. Technology has not only helped us grow in the
technical field but also in the field of administration
28| August | 2019
31. through enterprise resource planning (ERP) .Handling
and managing student information, collecting fees and
filing exam forms has become effective, error free and
simple due to advent of technology. Applying for
scholarships, concessions and stipends has now become
online and paperless omitting middlemen and corruption.
As every coin has two sides, technology also has affected
negatively on productivity of human beings to a major
extent. Writing skills of students have affected to a great
extent making them dependent on digital communication
and forgetting writing skills. With newer softwares and
hacking tools incidences of cheating and frauds have
increased many folds. Technology is money driven and
cost of technology is high. In the field of education,
dependence of students over technology is seen greatly,
affecting their imaginative power. Students rely more on
internet for ideas and incidences of copying ideas is
more than getting inspired from ideas. Footfall in the
libraries has got affected as students seem to prefer
internet over actual referencing. Health issues related to
eyes, obesity and emotional dependence is increasing in
younger generation. However, counting the benefits of
technology, rewards of technology are far greater than
shortcomings, thus making technology a valuable tool in
the field of education.

problems on a day-to-day basis. Some of these are
minor while some may turn into major dilemmas,
which is why the solutions to these different problems also
differ. The ability to solve problems as quickly as possible
is a skill which is highly valued in the business and
corporate world. It is a skill which resonates the personality
of a leader who solves problems and makes good decisions
that lead to better results.
Quick problem-solving ability is something that is essential
to excel in all aspects of life especially in the professional
world because it can help you get promoted faster and paid
more. Fortunately, through practice, this skill can be
polished to make you an asset for your organization.
There are four major steps in solving a problem and the
faster you apply these steps, the better you get. These
crucial steps of problem-solving include-
1. Identifying the problem-
For a problem to be solved, it is important to identify
the problem and it’s magnitude. Once, you are clear
about what really the problem is, you can go further
to solve it. This process requires you to sit and map
which areas are in trouble and need a solution.
2. Look for the causes-
The next step to avoid the problem to expand is to
identify its causes. Identifying the cause helps you to
analyze what has created the problem in order to
prevent it in the future. Once this is done, the next
steps become clear.
3. Analyzing possible solutions-
One problem can have many possible solutions, but
the key is to find the quickest and the easiest solution
which will help you save time and effort. Each
possible solution needs to be thought of carefully in
order to get the ideal solution.
4. Implementing the best solution-
After analyzing and selecting the best possible
solution, create a plan to implement the solution.
Test and review the solution to make sure that you
have made the right choice.
These are the tools of good problem-solving ability. The
quicker you are at this, the better opportunities you have in
the professional life. Problem-solving is a skill which is
often stressed upon, in the business and corporate world. At
times you can get under a tremendous amount of pressure,
and at such times it is important to not give in and instead
with a calm mind solve the problem. T R
