2. Introduction
Thailand is the perfect country to both take
care of – and treat – yourself: For example,
you can visit a great dentist; then, take a
dream tour; explore an ancient culture; and
save on what it would cost to only get your
teeth done at home. Dental Hospital Bangkok
The Land of Smiles is now widely recognized
as one of the world’s best destinations for
dental tourists seeking world-class treatment
at what can only be described as astonishing
prices. Visitors can receive any treatment or
procedure they wish, save up to 70% on
costs, and then enjoy a post-treatment exotic
holiday at any number of prime destinations
throughout the Kingdom … while showing off
their dazzling new smile.
3. Introduction
As far as professionalism and certification go,
dentists in Thailand are regulated and registered
with the Thai Dental Council and are members of
the Dental Association of Thailand. Many Thai
dentists have received substantial training in the
US, the UK, Australia, and other Western countries;
thus, most of them speak English very well,
something you definitely want in your dentist.

4. Beyond this, it’s not only the quality of the
care that visitors appreciate so much in
Thailand, but also the style and manner in
which it is given. Patients often praise the
gentleness, grace, and even sympathy they
receive from dental professionals in Thailand,
and very few have any desire to return to their
dentists at home– understandably so.

6. WHAT MAKES THAILAND SUCH A GREAT
DENTAL TOURISM DESTINATION?
The country’s dentists have earned
their reputation for top quality,
affordable treatment, as well as
wonderful service.
There are many reasons why Thailand has
emerged as one of the world’s leading
choices for dental treatment and dental
tourism. The country’s dentists have earned
their reputation for top quality, affordable
treatment, as well as wonderful service. The
facilities are immaculate if not beautiful, and
the waiting lists can hardly be called that,
since they are so short. Altogether, it is a
most refreshing experience for many.
Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC)
7. Patients are also impressed at the
modern state-of-the-art facilities
that they find in all top dental
centers, including digital panoramic
X-ray and 3D CAD/CAM, which is
not always found in clinics in their
home countries. This technology
also speeds up what are normally
lengthy procedures at lower-tech
clinics.

WHAT MAKES THAILAND SUCH A GREAT
DENTAL TOURISM DESTINATION?
8. Although what initially draws many international visitors
to Thailand for medical and dental care are the
incredible cost savings, what brings them back for
ongoing treatment is the array of procedures available,
the highest levels of expertise and professionalism , and
the great satisfaction they feel at having a job well done.
The great added
bonus of the trip is the
chance to visit dream
destinations like
Phuket, Chiang Mai,
Koh Samui, Pattaya,
and Hua Hin – all a
short drive or quick
flight from the capital.

10. THAILAND’S WIDE ARRAY
OF DENTAL TREATMENTS
Dentists in Thailand perform any and all dental
procedures you could want – or need: implants,
crowns, veneers, extractions, root canals,
dentures, teeth whitening, braces, fillings, bridges
and more. Thailand’s dentists are internationally
famous particularly for their expertise performing
dental implants.
Dental Implants
Dental implants replace missing
teeth, and also help to secure loose
dentures or eliminate them entirely.
There are two types of dental
implants available in Thailand:
conventional implants, which are
done in two stages, normally about
3 to 6 months apart; and immediate
implants, or same-day implants.
Immediate implants can be done
immediately after a tooth (or teeth)
are extracted, and are only used for
patients with good jawbone
condition. Conventional implants
are the norm, and the majority of
patients have their implants done
this way.

11. Whitening
Teeth whitening is a very common and popular treatment
in Thailand. The length of treatment depends on what type
of tooth whitening you decide to have: in-office laser
whitening or home-whitening. Laser teeth whitening is a
short 2-hour process that produces quick, effective
results; home whitening takes longer and you will be
instructed how to use a professional home whitening kit
until you’re satisfied with the results.
Root Canals
Root canals are necessary
when a tooth’s nerves are
damaged by decay or
infection. The pulp, nerves,
bacteria, and decay are
removed and replaced with
special medicated dental
materials in order to save the
tooth. This is normally a multi-
visit process that is frequently
capped with a crown over the
treated tooth.

12. Veneers
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain fitted
over the front of teeth to hide imperfections
or make them appear straighter and more
beautiful. There are two types of veneers,
those made from porcelain and those made
from resin composite materials. Porcelain is
typically used for teeth with bigger problems,
while resin composite is the simpler process
for less damaged teeth. You’ll need to
consult your dentist to determine which is
best for you. i-dent Dental Clinic

13. Crowns
Crowns are one of the most common
procedures needed by patients in
Thailand. This is an artificial restoration
that completely caps or encircles what
remains of a tooth or a dental implant.
There are three types of materials
available to choose from when
receiving a dental crown in Thailand:
porcelain fused to metal (PFM), all
porcelain, or all metal dental crowns,
which are made of gold. Your dentist
will advise what is best for you, along
with the relative costs.

14. Fillings
Most everyone is familiar with fillings, which are
needed to fill cavities that have developed due to
tooth decay. There are two types of fillings one
can receive nowadays: the traditional amalgam
filling, consisting of an amalgam of metals
including silver, tin, zinc, mercury, and copper; and
the newer composite resin tooth-colored fillings,
which match the natural tooth color much more
closely. Amalgam fillings are stronger and last
longer than composite resin fillings, though
patients often prefer using the lighter resin fillings
for their more visible teeth.

15. Dentures
Dentures are removable dental appliances used to
replace missing teeth. Two types of dentures are
available: complete, or full dentures; and partial
dentures. Complete dentures replace all of the teeth,
Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC)
while a partial denture fills in the
space created by missing teeth and
prevents other natural teeth from
changing their position. Depending
on what your needs are, you may
need to spend more time in
Thailand, especially for complete
dentures, or make two trips to
complete the process. As always,
consult with your dentist, or contact
them in advance to determine the
best course of treatment.

16. Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a common method used to fill
a space created by a missing tooth, or teeth. A
dental bridge is made up of two to three or
more dental crowns for the teeth on either side
of the gap, which will now be filled with a false
tooth. Thus a bridge is created over the former
gap, which supports the replacement tooth.

17. There are basically 3 types of dental bridges:
traditional bridges, which are the most
common; cantilever bridges, used when there
are adjacent teeth on only one side of the
missing tooth; and Maryland (bonded) bridges,
which are made of plastic teeth and gums, and
are supported by a metal framework. Bridges
are another of the common treatments that
tourists seek to have done on their dental
holidays to Thailand.

18. Thailand offer visitors any
possible dental treatment
that they may need
Apart from the popular treatments described
above, dental clinics and hospitals throughout
Thailand offer visitors any possible dental
treatment that they may need, including cleaning,
scaling, polishing, extraction, orthodontics, and
many other procedures. Thailand is one of the
few countries where you’ll find people raving
about their dentists, and encouraging others to
try theirs. Once you’ve tried dentistry in Thailand,
chances are you’ll change your mind forever
about not wanting to go to the dentist.

20. As one would expect of one of the world’s great
cities, Bangkok has dental clinics and dental
hospitals of all shapes and sizes, from a small clinic
with one chair to an entire five-story building with
some 80 plus dentists of all specialties and over
120 well-trained staff to take care of you.
Bangkok International Dental Center
(BIDC) is such a place, and is the first
dental center in Thailand to attain the
prestigious Joint Commission
International (JCI) Accreditation. Quite
amazingly, even with these high
standards, world-class dentists, and hi-
tech facilities, the cost of dental
treatment in Bangkok is on average
50-70% cheaper than in the West.
BANGKOK
21. Chiang Mai is a wonderful Thailand
dental destination for a number of
reasons. One can get all the best
treatment as in Bangkok, but at even
better prices. Accommodation is cheaper;
the weather is cooler; and many trips are
possible from Chiang Mai due to its
close-proximity to natural splendors like
majestic Doi Suthep mountain.
Teeth cleaning and whitening is popular, as
well as root canals, dental crowns, and
implants. With basic check-ups less than
US$20, it’s not surprising that Chiang Mai,
Thailand’s second city, is one of the country’s
most popular dental tourism destinations.
CHIANG MAI
22. Thailand’s newest tourist hot spot, Hua
Hin, a few hours’ drive south of Bangkok,
has developed significantly in recent
years. Along with all the improvements to
infrastructure and the exciting, new
tourist attractions, have come multitudes
of international visitors in search of a new
place to visit in Thailand with a slower pace than
that found at many other popular destinations.
Savvy visitors have also become aware that
Thailand’s famed, super reasonable dental care is
also available here – and at some of the best prices
in the Kingdom. Hua Hin may be just the place to
take care of that painful tooth that has been
bothering you, or to simply have your teeth cleaned
and polished to a brilliant white. It’s well worth the
short time and minimal investment involved.

Koh Samui’s name has become world famous in
recent decades as an idyllic island retreat for
travelers of all stripes: from backpackers staying in
beachside huts to jetsetters and A-listers enjoying
the ultra-luxurious spas and wellness centers. Due
to increasing promotion as well as word-of-mouth,
Koh Samui is also becoming known as a place to get
some excellent dental work before returning to the
beach, spa, or golf course. At the prices offered on
Samui – such as teeth whitening for as little as
US$100 – one feels rather silly not taking advantage
of the opportunity. Best of all, one can walk in to
most any clinic, sign in, and hardly get tucked into a
magazine before you’re called in to see the doctor.

24. Dentists in Pattaya are now treating more
and more tourists for every possible dental
treatment and procedure, including crowns,
veneers, implants, root canals, extractions,
teeth whitening, dentures, fillings, and
bridges. It’s easy to schedule dental visits
between games of golf, fishing, parasailing,
or simply sun-bathing, and the savings
accrued even entice some to extend their
holidays. All in all, a very sweet – yet guilt-
free – deal indeed.
Although dental work is not what typically
comes to mind when thinking of the
seaside resort of Pattaya, a short drive
from Bangkok, more and more visitors are
adding dental care to their list of things to
do during their stay here.
PATTAYA
25. Phuket, one of the world’s most popular
tourist destinations, is your basic tropical
island paradise that also happens to
possess a totally modern infrastructure,
luxury hotels, amazing restaurants, and
first-class medical care. Tens of
thousands of tourists descend on Phuket
every year in search of quality, affordable
dental care. Price-wise, you’ll be paying
50-75% less on dental care here than
you’d pay back home, which some
patients use to purchase better quality
materials for their dental appliances, while
others simply head to the beach for a week’s
rest and relaxation.
