From Slavery to Sonship by P.S T. N Makhubu. We're nolonger sold out to Sin. Mercy has rewrote our Lives. We've been set free by the blood of Jesus from Slavery to Sonship!
2. Objectives
Understanding the last statement Jesus Made on the
cross “IT IS FINISHED’!!
Understanding the concept of redemption within the
context of ancient slave markets.
Demonstrating how we cross from being a doulos
(Slave) to a heios (Son).
Cultivating an attitude of gratitude towards the Finished
work of the cross
3. REDEMPTION
To redeem means ‘to purchase.’ When Christ died for our sins, He paid the price that satisfied
the demands of God’s holiness. The price of redemption was the blood of Christ. In explaining
redemption to the Galatians, Paul used three different words that were applied to purchasing
servants at the ancient slave markets:
I. Agorazo: ‘to purchase in the market,’ is used to explain how Christ paid the redemption
price of His blood, which was sufficient to purchase every one ‘sold under sin’ [Galatian
3:10, 2 Peter 2:1]
II. Ekagorazo: ‘to purchase and take home, out of the slave market (An Exodus)’ emphasizes
that Christians have been purchased out of the marketplace and are no longer for sale.
[Galatians 3:13]
III. Lutroo: ‘to purchase and give freedom and to confer son ship,’ emphasizes the liberty that
belongs to a soul redeemed by God. Through Christ believers have become God’s sons by
adoption [Galatians 4:5] The Christian is encouraged to stand fast in that liberty [Galatians
5:1]
4. REDEEMED BY THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF
JESUS CHRIST:

nalelingenasici. Yena watinchanti, live lisengakasekelwa,
kodvwa wabonakaliswa kuletikhatsi kuletikhatsi tekugcina
ngenca yenu.’
NKJV ‘Forasmuch as you know that you were not redeemed
with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation [vain lifestyle] received by tradition from your
fathers. But with the Precious Blood of Christ, as of a Lamb
without blemish and without spot. Who verily was foreordained
before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these
last times for you.’

NKJV ‘What? Do you not know that your body is the Temple
of the Holy Spirit which dwell in you, which you have of God,

which are God’s.

12. Lutroo
KubaseGalathiya/Galatians 4:5
Siswati ‘Khona itebahlawulela labo labangephansi
kwemtsetfo, kuze natsi semukeleke
njengemadvodzana.’
KJV ‘To redeem them that were under the Law, that we
might receive the adoption of sons.’
13. STANDING FAST IN THE LIBERTY CHRIST
HAS PURCHASED FOR US THROUGH HIS
BLOOD:
For freedom Christ freed us. Therefore we are to stand fast[retain
our spiritual freedom] and do not again be subject to the yoke of
bondage. The yoke of bondage in view here is freedom from the
Law, here called ‘a yoke of bondage.
KubaseGalathiya/Galatians 5:1
Siswati ‘Khristu wasikhululela kutsi sihlale sikhululekile.
Manini-ke, nicine, ningaphindzi niboshelwe ejokeni lebugcili.’
KJV ‘Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ
has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of
bondage’
14. Stages of sonship:
Nepios Stage: A babe. Though an heir but differs not from a slave due to lack of
Maturity. Great Learning and foundation (Milk) are necessary. _Galatians 4:1,
Hebrews 5:12-14
Teknon Stage: A young child. Ready to be given responsibility but there are
inconsistencies in carrying out the will of the father…shows more training is
necessary_ Matthew 21: 28-31 (Parable Sons in the teknon stage)
Neaniskos Stage: Similar to the Maturity of ‘young men.’ This is the stage of the
overcomer. This son has been tested and displayed strength and who in the
testing has represented the word of God silencing all the noises. _1 John 2:13-15
Huios Stage: Final stage of sonship. This is the son who may be sent as the full,
complete representation of the Father. Matthew 21: 33-44 (Parable of the Huios
Son). The Huios son carries the measure of the house of God when he is sent.
This is the fully mature, Christ-like son.
