Plant Optimisation Strategy: Matching plants,
feedstocks and financing strategies for best
financial output
Workshop Leader:
Hugh Unwin, Portfolio Director, Environmental,
Foresight Group
Overview of the workshop:
Project developers, funders and other supply chain
counterparties face a number of key decisions when
structuring a project. Available feedstocks and how they
can be contracts and priced affects both the technology
required to treat the feedstock, as well as the funding
structures that could support the available contract
structures.
This workshop will explore how developers, funders and
the supply chain can work to maximise project economies
by understanding the various interactions across fuel,
technology and commercial structures.
Why you should attend:
Participants will have an opportunity to discuss and explore
the dynamics of developing an Energy from Waste project
to maximise economic returns. The workshop will focus on
how different feedstock choices affect the technology
required and how different financing strategies influence
contracting structures for feedstock and technology, or
vice-versa.
Programme

Andy Pike is a Director of Cory Riverside Energy
that deliver Cory’s waste management and
river logistics solution to Local Authorities and
Commercial and Industrial customers across
London. A Qualified Accountant by trade
with 13 year’s waste management and river logistics
industry experience. Andy has been involved with the
Riverside EfW project since 2004 and was an integral
part of the team delivering the original financing in
2008 and oversaw the financial management of the
project during its construction between July 2008 and
operational takeover in October 2011. Andy now leads
the Cory Riverside Energy business in London strategically
delivering Cory’s unique carbon efficient solution for
London’s waste and has recently been a member of the
core team refinancing the project.
About the organisation:
At Cory Riverside Energy’s Riverside Resource Recovery
Energy from Waste facility in Belvedere, waste that would
have gone to landfill is used as feedstock to generate
electricity. As one of the largest operations of its kind in
the UK, the facility generates c.525,000 MWh of electricity
each year. What’s more, we use the River Thames as
a green highway to move the waste from the city to
the facility on our fleet of tugs and barges, removing
around 100,000 truck movements a year off our capital’s
congested roads. By treating waste in this manner, Cory
Riverside Energy saves an average of 230,000 tonnes of
carbon per annum compared to landfill.

As one of the largest operations of its kind in the UK, the facility generates c.525,000 MWh of electricity each year. What’s more, we use the River Thames as a green highway to move the waste from the city to the facility on our fleet of tugs and barges, removing around 100,000 truck movements a year off our capital’s congested roads. By treating waste in this manner, Cory Riverside Energy saves an average of 230,000 tonnes of carbon per annum compared to landfill.
