A description of typical computer components (P1) and computer networks (M1)

2.  In personal computers, a motherboard is the
central printed circuit board (PCB) in many
modern computers and holds many of the
crucial components of the system, providing
connectors for other peripherals. The
motherboard is sometimes alternatively known
as the main board, system board, planar board
or, on Apple computers, The logic board.

3. THE POWER SUPPLY IS THE COMPONENT WHICH “SUPPLIES
POWER” TO THE ENTIRE COMPUTER. IT WORKS BY CONVERTING THE
ALTERNATING CURRENT TO THE DIRECT CURRENT

4. The central processing unit (CPU) is the portion of
a computer system that catties out the instructions
of a computer program, to perform the basic
arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of
the system.

5.  A video card, display card, graphics card, or
graphics adapter is an expansion card
which generates a feed of output images to
a display. Most video cards offer various
functions such as accelerated rendering of
3D scenes and 2D graphics, MPEG-2/MPEG-
4 decoding, TV output, or the ability to
connect multiple monitors.

6.  Random access memory (RAM) is a form of
computer data storage. Today, it takes the
form of integrated circuits that allow stored
data to be accessed in any order with a
worst case performance of constant time.

8.  Computers can connect to an Ethernet network
through plugging an 8P8C modular connector
(Ethernet cable) which is plugged into the
router to the computer.

9.  A desktop computer is your standard home
computer.
 Whether it be a Mac or PC, they all connect to
the internet via an Ethernet cable.

10. Laptops can connect to the internet without
needing an Ethernet cable. To connect to a
wireless network, you need a wireless router.

11. Laptops are portable PCs and Macs.
They can connect via Ethernet too but
mainly through a wireless network
(WiFi)
They have an in-built
Wireless adapter but External
ones can be attatched

12.  In telecommunications, 4G is the fourth generation
of cell phone Mobile Network. It is the successor of
the third generation (3G). A 4G system provides
mobile ultra-broadband Internet access, for
example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to
smartphones and to other mobile devices.
Applications include: amended mobile web
access, gaming services, HD video
