  2. 2. Relationship between semantics and teaching vocabulary  Vocabulary occurs naturally in native speakers, while L2 learners have to memorize it.  The mind uses semantic similarities to classify words, that is a reason for teaching vocabulary
  3. 3.  Semantic words together, make learners to compare words and to know word meanings  Unrelated words are effective to adult beginners  Related words are effective for children
  4. 4. Techniques for presenting vocabulary  There are two techniques for presenting vocabulary: Semantically related and semantically unrelated word sets. It could be a good idea, if teachers use semantic unrelated words in their lesson plans, • works in a short term • works for young learners and had higher scores Semantic unrelated words • They are on text books • They are easy for teachers to teach • follows the communicative needs of EFL learners Semantic related words
  5. 5. Conclusion Children develop language in a natural way and build up different layers of meaning for the new vocabulary they learn. Semantics give concepts of synonyms, antonyms and vocabulary gives a range of words; and together work building a small mind dictionary Semantics help to increase vocabulary
