2. The history of video games goes as far back as the 1940s. Video
gaming would not reach mainstream popularity until the 1970s
and 1980s, when arcade video games, consoles games and
home computer games were introduced to the general public.
Since then, video gaming has become a popular form of
entertainment and a part of modern culture in most parts of
the world. There are currently considered to be eight
generations of video game consoles, with the sixth, seventh and
the eighth concurrently ongoing.

4. William Higginbotham created the first video game
ever in His game, called "Tennis for Two," was created
and played on a Brookhaven National Laboratory
oscilloscope. In 1962, Steve Russell invented Space
War. Space War was the first game intended for
computer use. Russell used a MIT PDP-1 mainframe
computer to design his game.

5. •In 1952, A.S. Douglas wrote his PhD degree at the
University of Cambridge on Human-Computer interraction.
Douglas created the first graphical computer game - a
version of Tic-Tac-Toe. The game was programmed on a
EDSAC vaccuum-tube computer, which had a cathode ray
tube display.

7. SECOND GENERATION
(1976 -1992 )
•This generation of advancement saw
the item called the cartridge being
introduced into the gaming world for
the very first time. These cartridges
contained ROM chips which was used
to burn programs into, and these
cartridges can then be used to insert
into the console and engage in play.

that the consumers were able to collect
and play numerous games.

8. THIRD GENERATION (1983 -2003 )
•This generation of
development saw the
console-based video
gaming fall and computer-
based gaming taking over.
This happened partly due
to the famous crash of the
console video games and
due to the fact that
computer gaming allowed
gamers increased sense of
freedom and total control.
9. HOWEVER, THE REIGN OF THE
COMPUTER WASN'T LONG TO BE
Video game consoles took over once
again to people thanks to Nintendo's NES
and the game with which it came to the
market: Super Mario Bros.
