QUESTION 2
After reviewing and calculating the risks associated with the company located in
Sunnyvale California the two risks that I found to have the most negative impact are
Earthquakes and Terrorism. Earthquakes as we know can have an impact unlike any other
in any area but in this particular location earthquakes are very likely to occur which
would cause extreme damage to the building in this area.
The building itself could be destroyed and unable to be recovered, there would be loss of
power and equipment within the building and also physical harm to the employees. In
order to recover from such a disaster a disaster recovery would have to be put in place to
secure not only the company but the employees as well. Proper evacuation procedures
would have to be put in place, relocation to another location would also have to be put in
place to ensure the safety of the employees. Customer data and information would have
to be backed up to ensure safe keeping of customers information. If the building is able to
remain after the earthquake then there should be a power backup for all equipment in the
building so that proper personnel is able to communicate with the authorities as well as
with the employees to ensure safety of all people in the building. Customers should be
updated with the status of the disaster and what is being done to bring the system back
up. Once employees have been relocated to another location all information should be
downloaded properly to ensure that employees are able to access customers information
securely and able to conduct business as usual. The advantage of this is to ensure that
employees are safe throughout the process, customers information is secured and that the
company is able to recover as quickly as possible without losing customers and having
too much of a financial lost in the process.
Terrorism is something that every company must prepare for whether it’s the act itself or
just a threat. This type of risk can cause an huge impact to the company as well as the
employees and customers. This can lead to the destruction of the building as well as
physical harm to employees even unauthorized access to the companies data and
customer information. In order to ensure a proper recovery from terrorism evacuation
procedures would have to be put in place. Relocation to another location would have to
follow through properly to ensure the safety of employees and personnel. Proper
communication would have to be made to the authorities. Alarms and sprinklers would
have to be installed in the building to ensure proper notification to fire and police
departments. Backups of software, hardware, company and customer information would
have to done to ensure secure keeping of data. Customers would have to be updated on
the status if the terrorism to ensure that the company is doing everything possible to end
the act as well as ensuring the customers that their business and information is being kept
secured at the time. The advantage of this disaster recovery is to ensure the safety of
employees as well as the customers to establish the companies policies and procedures as
it pertains to this risk as well as protect the information of the company, employees, and
their customers. Without the proper disaster recovery in place the company would
possibly not be able to recover from an earthquake or terrorism risk.

A) J Harry would first contact the Damage Assessment team to advise of the situation so
that the Damage Assessment Team can start their process. Then J Harry would contact his
team members on the Crisis Management team to inform them of situation at hand and to
see if they can go to the site and meet with the Damage Assessment Team to see if there
is a reason to declare an disaster or not. From there the Legal and Human Resources,
Data Centers and Facilities, Technology and Professional Services, and the Business
Continuity Recovery teams would be notified about the fire that has taken place. These
departments would be notified so that they may take part in the Damage Assessment
process. J Harry as a result would not only contact his team but he would need to contact
4 other teams regarding the fire that has taken place at the site.
B) The Damage Assessment team is responsible for declaring a disaster. They will
declare a disaster by going to the Naperville office immediately. From there the Damage
Assessment team leader will bring the Damage Assessment forms for the team to
complete their portion of the assessment. Not only will these team members be apart of
the Damage Assessment Form process but also Legal and Human Resources, Data
Centers and Facilities, Technology and Professional Services, and the Business
Continuity Recovery teams would have to complete a form to assess if the Naperville

determine if the site can be utilized as it currently exist at that moment. The Disaster
Assessment Team then meets with the Crisis Management Team Lead to notify him that a
disaster has been declared from there the Crisis Management Team Lead will notify his
team of the information provided by the Damage Assessment Team. The Crisis
