Simone Kennedy - Pilgrimage to imago lunchtime talk
1. Wellspring
explores and celebrates a seamless link between
birth and death
celebrating the near invisible transformation that
occurs when the world of insects overwhelms a
lifeless body1
. Through a process of decay and
renewal, imagined insect forms bristle with life,
layering complex patterns inside and out.

In biology, the Imago (Latin for “Image”) is the last stage an insect attains during its metamorphosis,
its process of growth and development, it also is called the imaginal stage, the stage in which the
insect attains maturity. It follows the final ecdysis (the process of shedding the old skin – or in insects
casting off the outer cuticle) of the immature instars (a phase between two periods of moulting in the
development of an insect larva or other invertebrate animals). Cite Wiki quote
2. Mother my child
your lie
rests upon my heart
so close
it becomes a middle-mare
this
I now bestow to you
in memory
of
our silence
5. A giant is alive in our flat. Her vast body fills the
tall Victorian hallway with just enough room for
her tiny pea shaped head. Her eyes are made up
of a million stars. They rest upon the outer edges
of space as she forensically rotates her stare, a
full 360 degrees.
