1. Caught in the Act
Int. Lila’s bedroom – DAY
LILA SMITH, early twenties, in her simplistic room with just a bed, desk,
wardrobe and drawers. The room is white and tidy, LILA is emptying drawers and
packing it neatly into a black hold all. LILA checks her paperwork almost
systematically. It becomes apparent that LILA is looking for something; she
opens the drawers confused and storms out of her room.
Int. Dawn’s bedroom – DAY
DAWN SMITH is on her bed listening to music with her laptop open, we can hear
the loud pop-punk music. Dawn’s room is dark and messy, drawers are slightly
open with clothes spilling over the sides, and clothes scatter the floor. The
curtains and blinds are drawn. LILA bursts through the door and steps into the
middle of the room, DAWN looks up from her laptop.
DAWN
What do you want?
LILA
Dad’s old dog tags from the army, where is it?
DAWN
I don’t know, I think mum has it
LILA spies from the corner a pink jumper spilling over an overfilled drawer and
picks it up
LILA
Why do you have this? It’s mine!
DAWN gets up from her bed and goes to snatch back the pink jumper, LILA
raises it above her head from her younger sister to stop her from grabbing it.
DAWN
You gave it to me - it’s mine!
The pair struggle for a while trying to grab the jumper.
DAWN
Ugh, just take it, I don’t care anyway
DAWN retreats back to her bed and continue playing on her laptop, DAWN’s
attitude changes and becomes defensive.
LILA
2. Caught in the Act
What’s wrong with you? You’ve been like this for months?
DAWN
Nothing.
LILA
There’s something wrong. Tell me.
DAWN puts her laptop down and stands up, confronting LILA. LILA crosses her
arms, with the jumper still in hand, ready to hear an explanation.
DAWN
I need you here. We’ve never been apart. What if something bad happens?
LILA uncrosses her arms and sighs; she pulls LILA into a hug, her head resting
on top of DAWN’s.
LILA
Nothing is going to happen, I’ll come home.
FADE TO BLACK
FADE BACK FROM BLACK
INT. Front Room - DAY
DAWN is wearing the brightly coloured jumper, she looks slightly older, and time
is shown to have passed. She is watching TV. The phone rings in the
background, LILA and DAWN’s MUM answers it.
MUM O.S
DAWN, your sister is coming home..
DAWN looks up from the TV, a slightly worried look crosses her face.
