However, your approach can also have negative
consequences. Business leaders strive for

economic conditions are deteriorating. In such

Tell us about your career before joining
The Shipping Tribune as a CEO.
My career in Merchant Navy started in January 1989 as
Trainee Nautical Officer. Till 2007 I sailed on merchant
ships in various capacities, out of which I sailed as
Master (Captain) for 6 years. In 2007, I began my career
ashore as I joined Essar Shipping as the Deputy General
Manager. In 2010, I joined International Bunkering
Middle East as the General Manager, and within eight
months, I was promoted and made the Country Head-
India Division.
We would like to know about The Shipping
Tribune’s inception.
For a long time, since I was a Third Officer, it was my
dream to one day start a Maritime Media company that
would provide a much-needed bridge between all the
crucial players in the maritime world. The Shipping
Tribune was launched in 2012 with a vision of creating a
global networking platform for the Maritime fraternity
and providing news and information specifically catered
for them.
In 2014, we also began holding Maritime Summits tri-
annually to cater to different sections of the Shipping
Industry. Our aim with this was to enable important
discussions within the industry, with inputs from
industry leaders across the globe. We have successfully
accomplished this for the past eight years.
How does The Shipping Tribune stand out
in the shipping industry?
Apart from providing essential news and information,
The Shipping Tribune conducts ‘World This Week’
and ‘In Conversation’ where we interview prominent
industry stakeholders to bring on noteworthy ideas,
discussions, and opinions. It is published on our website
and The Shipping Tribune YouTube channel. ‘Maritime
Employment News’ is another video segment we
produce where we regularly list the latest important job
vacancies in the maritime industry, in a video format.
We are the first and only news portal in this sector to
publish a series like Maritime Employment News.
Our Maritime Summits also facilitate industry leaders
to network extensively and share new business ideas
and opportunities.

a lot during the initial days of covid19
pandemic. What strategies did you apply
to stay afloat?
Our Maritime Summits were originally held in
person. However, they are now held online due to
the pandemic. We increased our interactions with
industry stakeholders on all our online platforms. At
The Shipping Tribune, we prioritize the safety of our
participants and staff above all else and will continue in
an online format until it is deemed safe to conduct in-
person summits again.
‘Maritime Employment News’ was conceptualized and
launched during the pandemic to provide an important
link between employers and industry professionals
looking for the most suitable vacancies.

presence and how are you planning to
expand your network?
We have a strong market presence with an extensive
reach in India and in all the major maritime hubs of
the world. Our news portal is visited by maritime
professionals from more than 100 countries. As far as
our Maritime conferences are concerned, they are being
attended by business leaders from Far East Asia, the
Middle East, India and Europe.
What kind of shift have you noticed in the
Indian shipping industry?
I have observed a big change in the industry in the last
five to six years. There is a lot more support as far as
the government is concerned. Particularly in the port
sector, connectivity, roads and infrastructure leading to
the ports and within the ports as well. Port efficiency
has increased. There are also more entrepreneurs and
MSMEs coming up in the shipping industry as well as
more people involved in supplying the right talent and
manpower to the world.

the most cost-effective way to transport large amounts
of goods. It creates jobs in ship-building, ship breaking,
ship repair, marine training, and other associated

and employment creation.

mega ports will be built in Sagarmala as part of the
National Perspective Plan for the country. The ports and

route to 100 percent FDI for port and harbor building

njay started its journey as Enjay Computer
