What is Streetscape?
• Streetscape is a term “that refers to is used to describe the natural and built fabric of
the street, and defined as the design quality of the street and its visual effect.” The
concept recognizes that a street is a public place where people are able to engage in
various activities.

Definition
Avenue is a public road in a
town or city with buildings
on the sides. Which may
also have vegetation.
Boulevard is a wide street,
with vegetation on both
sides, it also has a median
that splits up the lanes of
traffic.
Median
An avenue may or may not
retain a median.
A boulevard usually has a
median.
Sides
The sides of an avenue
typically have buildings.
Generally, the sides of a
boulevard possess long lines
of trees and vegetation.
Lanes It is a straight road.
It is a multi-lane road with
multiple usages.
Traffic
Cars and other vehicles
move fast on an avenue.
Vehicles are supposed to
drive slow on a boulevard.

The corridor consist of 2 major gate
ways
• Duffer in Street and Centre Street
• Bathurst Street and Centre Street
Intersections
Intersections vary in scale,
however, accommodate all modes
of transportation including
pedestrians, bicycles, personal
vehicles and the York Region Rapid
Transit bus corridor. Streetscaping
treatments at all intersections will
be the same, except for where
transit stations are located.
