There is a small number of residents in Risnjak NP, only 61.There are 16 small villages within the borders of Risnjak NP, mostly inhabited by older population.
Risnjak NP tries its best to educate people about its biological diversity.Along with the popular educational trail Leska which was opened in 1993, Risnjak NP regularly participates in different projects funded by the EU. Also, the Park organizes various events for school children where they can learn more about the the Park’s nature.
The park tracks the movement of large carnivores like the lynx, bear and wolf.Also, the Park is very active in speleo-research.
Eagriculture in Risnjak NPis more oriented to cultivatingsmall plots with crops and raising farm animals.Beekeeping is also very popular in Gorski kotar, and you can find a special type of honey in Risnjak NP, called medun.
Traditional craftspopular in the past, particularly in relation to the processing of wood, are now almost gone.One of these crafts is making šindra. This is a method of processing wood which results in wooden tiles used for isolating houses.
If you want to spend a holiday in Risnjak NP, there is a variety of lodging facilities.The Risnjak National Park guest-house is located close to the Park’s administration, in the picturesque small mountain village of Crni Lug. The Josip Schlosser Klekovski mountain hut below the Risnjak peak has 43 beds.The hut is open from 1st May until 31st October, all week except Tuesdays.Also, villages around the NP offer private accommodation for everyone who prefers intimate atmosphere.
Risnjak NP offeres a wide variety of sport activities for those who like mountains, adventure and nature.If you want to experience the National park not just by walking through the National park paths, you can have a bike ride along the marked cycle tracks.
Along with marked hiking trailes, fishermen can try fly fishing in the rich Kupa River waters…Recreational fishing “catch and release” is permitted within the Park.
You can take a walk down to the lowest point of Risnjak NP, the Kupa Valley and the karst spring of this river. Just sit down and enjoy the silence and the cold spring water...
Risnjak NP offers game observation for the bravest. You can come, listen, and take a photo of the large animals of the Park.
