BIO
Suzette Amaya, Kwakwak wakw, Cree, Nisga’a, Coast Salish, Born and raised in East
Vancouver, BC. Moved to Tsulquate Reserve in 1987-1995. Graduated from Port Hardy
Secondary obtained a Diploma in Criminology and Associates of Arts Degree. Suzette
Amaya is a mother of two. Currently Ms. Amaya hold many roles within the Vancouver
Community, a Support worker with St. James Community Service Society, working with
Women & Children in the Downtown Eastside with Homelessness, Poverty, Addictions,
HIV/AIDS, Mental Health and those suffering from Emotional, Physical, Financial, and
Sexual Abuse. Suzette is passionate about helping youth through addictions, MCFD issues,
homelessness, abuse and schooling.

Facilitation Experience
Suzette Amaya has been facilitating workshops on a regular basis (2-4 workshops each month) across BC to Aboriginal
groups of all ages, at large conferences of an audience of 250 to smaller in large auditoriums and small classes. S.Amaya
speaks on Reserve, Conferences, High Schools, Adult ACCESS Bladerunners and Friendship Centres. Suzette also
voluntarily mentors youth regularly in various topics, mainly based on Media & Arts, training youth & young adults to excel in
fields such as Radio, Marketing, Personal Development and Aboriginal Media.
The workshops Suzette facilitates are interactive and attendees have received the workshops with positive response, which is
evident in the amount of requests to attend conferences and reserves regularly. Feedback from Host organization and

Workshop Objective
Suzette Amaya’s workshops will assist in participants gaining an understanding of the struggles many Aboriginal Peoples face whom
have been touched by Assimilation, Acculturation, Poverty, Abuse, Residential Schooling, Addiction and those surrounding its victims.
The objective also is to discuss how Negative Experiences and Our personal History have been directly correlated to our success in life.
The goal is to show how the negative feelings that go with stereotypes, guilt and shame can be worked on through a healing journey can
free us to positively build esteem, confidence and live life, pursuing our goals to success. Participants will also have the opportunity to
