My Philosophy of Nursing
Nurses carry the baton of care, communication, compassion and commitment.
The platform for my nursing is caring. I believe that nursing has derived from caring
for another humans needs in their emotional or physical being.
I am always privileged to be part of someone's life, and I know that when that
someone reflects on their healthcare experience which I am part of. I hope their
memory is, they were cared for.
The privilege extends to knowing the person for more than their illness. For when I
look at my patient I see a person, but when I communicate with my patient I discover.
Communication allows for providing the best planned care. But communication
needs to be on going to allow for changes. It needs to be fluid to allow for critical
thinking.
Compassion for another human being I believe comes from seeing beyond and
having the ability to put others first.
Nursing is a profession of commitment. When I say; ‘I am a nurse.’ I am saying that I
am dedicated to my patients, their family and my peers.
2. Nursing brings vast responsibility, so the baton I carry and is entrusted with by my
peers is a commitment, communicating that I intend to do well by all.
Personal Statement & Transferable Skills
My passion and dedication to healthcare in our community is shown
throughout the Bachelor of Nursing degree and work experience within the
health industry. The platform for my nursing is caring, as I believe that
nursing has derived from caring for another humans needs in their emotional
or physical being. Having a professional background in sales, I have enjoyed
rewarding times working alongside in partnership with customers. My
transition to the healthcare industry has developed from commitment and a
genuine compassion and care for people and a strong interest in health
science.
Now I am eager to learn what it is to be a registered nurse and exceed in this
professional realm.
With this I bring with me:
an ability to work within a culturally safe manner while promoting quality of life
the ability to form a partnership with people and build therapeutic relationships
I make myself accountable for my decisions
good clinical judgement and critical thinking skills
a sound base of nursing knowledge
the ability to work collaboratively alongside my peers as a team
a good sense of responsibility and respect
excellent time management and organisational skills to achieve desired outcomes
a very personable character
superb communication delivery including verbal and computer literacy
