the process of gathering, interpreting, recording, and
using information about pupils’ responses to an
educational task. (Harlen, Gipps, Broadfoot,

students have learned any set
of instructional outcomes;
thereby making a pass fail
decision.”
6. “Information communicated to
the learner that is intended to
modify his or her thinking or
behavior for the purpose of
improving learning”
7. “A systematic process to
continuously gather evidence
and provide feedback about
learning while instruction is
under way”
8. Formative assessment aims at improving the students
learning process by indicating the students’
deficiencies in learning and suggesting how to
improve the gap.
14. Students maintain a log:
where they record their learning
respond to a lesson regarding their understanding.
The teacher can collect some of the logs at the end of the
instruction to further reinforce the instruction as
required.
15. Students practice a presentation model with peer
faeedback.
This will enhance their presentation skills and
knowledge of subject matter.
Rubrics for presentation should be provided
beforehand.
16. To challenge students depth of knowledge
Questions of higher order are asked with students like
Explain, justify, imagine or defend
Feedback is given to improve them
Questions may be given in the form of scenario
17. Students reflect on their learning by answering to the
difficult questions.
18. The teacher presents a question.
Students think for 20-30 seconds.
And then share with their colleague .
They come to a common understanding
Then they share with the class.
19. The teacher says to sum up the important concept and
jot it down.
The work done can be discussed in the class
20. Once core knowledge is given to the students, students
are asked how they will apply it in different practical
situations/scenarios.

improvement
29. Formal Formative Assessment:
We are using Formal formative assessment at the end
of one module /clerkship session.
Assessment sessions are held by every week or
specified intervals to let the students check their
understanding of the subject matter and then
feedback is given
30. Informal Formative Assessment:
Before, during or after the instruction by the teachers
by asking questions , mock MCQs
