PresidentofIndiacondolesthepassingawayofShriManoranjanBhakta
husband, Shri Manoranjan
Bhakta.
Shri Bhakta was a vet-
eran Parliamentarian who
understood the pulse of the
people.
In his long public career,
he made important contri-
butions towards the welfare
of the people, particularly
that of Andaman and
Nicobar Islands. His serv-
ices to the nation as a former
Parliamentarian and social
worker will always be re-
membered.
Please accept my heart-
felt condolences and convey
the same to the rest of the
family. May the Almighty
give you and your family the

PORT BLAIR, JUNE 14/-/
Strange are the ways of Port
Blair Municipal Council
honchos. The more they
clarify, the more confusing
they make it. To begin with,
the PBMC invited applica-
tions on plain paper for the
post of JE (E&M) without
even bothering to ask the
candidates to attach photo
copies of their degree/di-
ploma certificates. Then

ter proper scrutiny.
When this correspond-
ent asked Mr. Ali Akbar, Ad-
ministrative Officer, PBMC,
whether the applicants will
be asked to submit the cop-
ies of their academic quali-
fications before they sit for
the written exam for JE’s
posts, he said it is not re-
quired. “We have already
clarified that if any discrep-
ancy is found before or after
appointment to the post, the
candidature/appointment
they displayed the eligibil-
ity list on their notice board,
once again without bother-
ing to mention that it was
only a provisional list.
When some of the candi-
dates raised a hue and cry
finding the names of some
unqualified candidates in
the list, the PBMC came out
with a rejoinder to the EOI
clarifying that it was
merely a provisional list
and the final eligibility list
will be prepared later on af-
will be summarily rejected,”
the AO said. “Ridiculous,”
blurted out a number of
prospective candidates.
“This means even an
unqualified applicant can
sit for the exam and even
get recruited to the post of
JE and then disqualified be-
fore or after his appoint-
ment. This would also mean
repeating the whole process
all over again. Why can’t
they call for copies of cer-
tificates well in advance
and scrutinize the whole
thing,” they wondered.
As for the Recruitment
Rules (RR) and the claims/
objections, these, he said,
will be given to the Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar Institute of
Technology (DBRAIT) and
the Administration. They
will take the final call on
these. The decision of the
Administration and
DBRAIT will be conveyed
to the screening committee
of the Council to prepare a
final list.
