No, they are not; in theory, editing comes after proofreading. Even though these terms are often used interchangeably, editing and proofreading are two different stages of the revision process. Once you proofread your work, only then will you be able to edit out the mistakes and weak sections.
When you’ve worked hard to develop and present your ideas and write academic content, you don’t want careless errors distracting your reader from what you have to say. It’s worth paying attention to the details that help you to make a good impression.
Check the Tone: The tone of the research paper must be properly checked.
Indents, Spacing and Citations: They are essential parts of your assignment and should be checked extensively.
