 Social media sites are an outlet for news, politics,
celebrities, businesses, and personal usage with the
different ways they can be utilized.
 There are thousands of social media network sites
available online.
 27% of time spent online is on a social network.
 The two most popular networks are Facebook and
Twitter.
 Facebook averages 1.1 billion users, Twitter averages
550 users.
A short burst of inconsequential information.
Twitter~
 Twitter one of the top three
social media networks available
on the internet today along
with Facebook and Instagram.
 Twitter has accumulated way
over 200 million users
worldwide and there are about
460,000 Twitter accounts
opened daily.
 Three programmers: Jack
Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz
Stone created Twitter in 2006.
 The site was created as sort of a
text messaging based site so
that the three could
communicate with their friends
and family easily.
 Twitter runs in SMS format and contains 140
characters at length.
 Within tweets users can relay information, news,
pictures, videos and status updates to their friends,
families, and followers.
 Hash tags, #, are used to gain more followers and
find others that share similar interest.
 Twitter has become a big source and tool for other
areas than just the average person.
 With it’s newly implemented video service, Vine,
users can upload a six second video.
 36% of Twitter users receive their news
from friends and families on the service.
 27% receive it directly from news
organizations and journalists with Twitter
accounts.
 News sources automatically update
breaking news.
 Local police have began using Twitter to
alert communities in many instances.

Twitter Takeover

  • 2.  Social media sites are an outlet for news, politics, celebrities, businesses, and personal usage with the different ways they can be utilized.  There are thousands of social media network sites available online.  27% of time spent online is on a social network.  The two most popular networks are Facebook and Twitter.  Facebook averages 1.1 billion users, Twitter averages 550 users.

  • 4.  Twitter one of the top three social media networks available on the internet today along with Facebook and Instagram.  Twitter has accumulated way over 200 million users worldwide and there are about 460,000 Twitter accounts opened daily.  Three programmers: Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz Stone created Twitter in 2006.  The site was created as sort of a text messaging based site so that the three could communicate with their friends and family easily.
  • 5.  Twitter runs in SMS format and contains 140 characters at length.  Within tweets users can relay information, news, pictures, videos and status updates to their friends, families, and followers.  Hash tags, #, are used to gain more followers and find others that share similar interest.  Twitter has become a big source and tool for other areas than just the average person.  With it’s newly implemented video service, Vine, users can upload a six second video.
  • 6.  36% of Twitter users receive their news from friends and families on the service.  27% receive it directly from news organizations and journalists with Twitter accounts.  News sources automatically update breaking news.  Local police have began using Twitter to alert communities in many instances. ◦ Amber Alerts ◦ Boston Bombings ◦ Traffic Updates  36% of people still go directly to news websites or apps to receive their news compared to 9% that use Facebook or Twitter for preferred news sources, yet numbers continue to rise.

  • 8.  66% of social media users engage in political activism online.  Young people who participate politically online are twice as more likely to vote.  Political figures can use the network: ◦ Communicating with voters. ◦ Establishing repertoire with the general public. ◦ Give journalist an edge on reporting about them.  Obama amassed nearly $1 billion dollars by asking for contribution through social media.
