Create a montage in Photoshop that can be used for a
Christian organization.
I used Photoshop to combine and edit all my images. I watched
several tutorials to teach my how to use different effects and
tools in Photoshop. I knew that I wanted some hierarchy in my text
so I picked one text and made two important words larger and
bolder. It also worked to align most of the text on the left and the
right.

Create a mockup for a website for the imaginary Diamond Florist
company from a previous assignment.
I used Photoshop to design my wireframe layout and mockup.
I used Illustrator to create a few of the elements I used on the
page, like the order button and social media buttons. I used the
knowledge I’ve acquired in this class and previous classes to work
in Illustrator and Photoshop. I used contrast in color, type and size
to create hierarchy throughout my site. The call to action button is
larger than the photo titles. The footer menu is the smallest.

Create a letterhead and business card for a business.
I did all my design work in Illustrator after hand sketching a
few ideas. I liked the idea of incorporating the gem shape
into an actual flower. I tried a shape logo with an analogous
color scheme, a type logo with complementary colors and a
monochromatic illustrated logo. I refined one logo by removing
the stem and just using the flower gem and leaves. The letter
head incorporates both colors and has a watermark in the
background. The business card has a designed front and back.

Practice HTML and CSS coding to design a page describing the
logo project.
I used colors from my logo as the inspiration for the web page
design. I used Illustrator to create a watermark type image of the
diamond shape to use as my background image. The border is
the same as the green in the logo. I worked with hierarchy in mind
when I design the intro paragraph. I put it in a gray box, made
it white and bold so that it would stand out and clearly be read
first. Next I used a bulleted list with bold first words to draw the
readers’ eyes to my next important points. I used alignment when
I chose the positioning of blocks of text and made sure there was
comfortable padding space between words and the border.

Create an engaging infographic with relevant information,
creative icons and a title that grabs a reader’s attention.
I decided to study facts about Yellowstone National Park. I
visited the park a few times with my family growing up. I did some
research online first to pick out the facts I wanted to highlight in
my infographic. Then I used Illustrator to design the icons, text,
and entire poster. I used the pen tool a lot and learned how to
use the graph generator. The design principles I used first were
message, color scheme and alignment.

Create a magazine cover with a self-portrait and article titles to
share a little about me, all while following good design principles.
To begin this project I though about a poster that my daughter
might like in her room. Her favorite color is purple, so I decided
a complementary color scheme using purple would be a good
way to go. I photographed some flowers I have on my porch and
tried to place flowers on the “thirds” grid lines. Once I had the
picture in Photoshop I cropped, and adjusted levels, vibrance,
selective color and sharpening. Using InDesign I placed the
image, added color blocks and text. Then I did a lot of moving
elements to create alignment, asymmetrical balance, and
hierarchy with my font choices.

Photoshop, Prezi
Create a Prezi sideshow that shows how Prezi can be a good
option for an informational presentation.
I started by looking at several other magazine covers to get an
idea of title and article placement around the main image. I also
wanted to see different ways to emphasize certain words on a
cover. I took a few pictures of myself on my phone in front of a
white wall. I took the best one and cropped around it in Illustrator
to make a png with a transparent background that I could use on
my cover. Using Photoshop I brightened up the picture a bit too. I
finally designed the final project in InDesign.I made four sketches
of possible cover layouts. On some I had my face centered,
some were more to the side. I played with the layers a bit too,
like if the image would go over or behind the title. I also moved
around the placement of the date, article titles, and barcode.

Design a new project of your choosing. This is another
photomontage.
I used Photoshop to layer, blend, and mask three different
images to create a blueberry pie poster. The checked pattern
image is used as a texture in the top left corner. I used a script
typeface for the title and a contrasting sans serif for the headings
and body copy. The body includes the ingredients list and the
instructions for making the pie.

Photograph an ordinary object to find and create letter shapes,
resulting in an original alphabet.
I bought three colored glass bottles and broke them in separate
paper bags. I examined the resulting shards to look for naturally
occuring letter shapes, or ones that I could create with very little
manipulation. I didn’t want them to look contrived. Using a bright
light source and white background, I arranged the glass pieces
and took pictures of each letter individually. Then I brightened
them up a little in photoshop and cut around the shapes in
Illustrator. I also designed the poster background using an image I
took of the pink glass.

Design posters for a public service campaign.
I chose a texting and driving message for my posters. I found
or photographed my own images of common street signs. This
is a speed limit sign where I have removed the original text
and layered on my own in Photoshop. The background image
was found online and the sign was cliped and placed in the
foreground. To make the sign look more realistic, I blurred the
edges just a bit in Photoshop.
