What Is Postpartum Depression?
What Is Postpartum Depression?
Postpartum depression is depression that moms (and
sometimes dads) feel after their baby is born.
It affects over 1 in 8 women and can last a long time if not
diagnosed and treated.
Causes Of Postpartum Depression
Hormone changes.
The experience of giving birth.
Other causes of stress.
Feeling isolated or lonely.
Existing mental health issues.
Symptoms Of Postpartum Depression
Persistent feelings of sadness or anxiety.
Low energy.
Difficulty bonding with your baby.
Intentionally isolating yourself from others.
Loss of interest in the world and your hobbies.
Frightening thoughts.
Could It Be PTSD?
If your delivery was particularly traumatic, you may instead be
experience PTSD.
PTSD tends to come with increased anxiety and flashbacks
back to the birth or point of trauma.
How Is Postpartum Depression
Treated?
After a diagnosis, a blend of self-help techniques and therapy is
recommended.
In some cases, doctors may also prescribe anti-depressants.
