Concept Introduction
We can only pay attention to what we read, watch or hear for 10-15 minutes, but textbooks,
online notes and cases are not designed for our attention span. Spark Prep GMAT courses
deliver concepts and strategies via 10-15 minute Learning Modules.
This doesn’t mean you study only 10-15 minutes a day! You should dedicate at least 60
minutes to each study session. Use the rest of your time to review more Modules or do
practice questions.
You MUST review the Modules before class, otherwise class time won’t be useful.
Btw: we’re tracking whether you look at the modules
The most prestigious law, medical, and business schools use the case study
method where academic concepts are delivered first as textbooks or online notes,
then you’re presented with a case to apply the concepts. Classroom
time is for discussing cases and for applying concepts, not for lectures.

Learning Modules
Learning Modules always follow the same structure:
● 10-15 minutes per module
● Set clear Objectives (no more than 3)
● Present the material
● Review what’s been presented
In fact, you’re reading a Learning Module right now!
How long is an average adult’s attention span when being
presented with a new ideas or information?
10-15 minutes. A coincidence? No.

Recall and Application
● When you come to class, you’ll immediately do a quiz!
○ We’re not trying to be mean. It’s an important part of learning effectively
○ Forced recall recently absorbed concepts cause your brain to store it somewhere that can be
easily accessed later
● Then you do the quiz again… in groups
○ We’re social creatures. We learn better when we share knowledge and experiences
○ It’s one thing to apply a concept but to explain it, we must reorganize our understanding and
think about how to explain it to others
● We switch topic every hour because our learning attention span is 10-15 minutes, but
our task concentration limit is 60-90 minutes

Correction and Mastery
● After the individual and group quizzes, Spark Prep GMAT instructors focus on the
areas the class had the most difficulty and correct, clarify, and redirect your
understanding of those concepts and strategies.
○ Immediate correction of mistakes is very important. Many mistakes are a force of habit. We
need to correct such mistakes immediately to break the mental habit.
● On your own, you should go back to the concepts and strategies you had the most
trouble with
○ Skim the related the module then try some more questions. Correct after each question as
described above
○ Gradually increase the difficulty level of the questions
● Follow the directions in the next modules to learn how to study/practice effectively
