1. JAM is an admission test to Master of Science (M.Sc.) and other post-graduate science
programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Indian

institutes. IITs started conducting the JAM in the 2004 - 2005 academic session.
IIT JAM Eligibility
In order to fulfill IIT JAM eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a bachelorâs degree
with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates). It may
be noted that the aggregate marks should be without rounding off and take into
account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined, informs
the official website.
Candidates who have appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in are also
eligible to apply.
For candidates who have been given letter grades/ CGPA as a substitute for percentage
of marks, the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting
college/ institute.

by the admitting institute should be submitted by September 30, 2018, states the

Besides the proof for minimum educational qualification, candidates also need to submit

8. IIT JAM Process
Step 1: Fill IIT JAM Application Form
For IIT JAM registrations, candidates need to apply for the exam in the online mode.
Candidates need to visit the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link
present on the official website of the exam and fill the IIT JAM application form there.
IIT JAM application fee also needs to be paid in the online mode only via net banking/
debit card/ credit card. It may be noted that candidates can apply for maximum two
test papers at a time. But for appearing for the second test paper, candidates need to
pay an additional application fee.
Note: Candidates applying for two test papers need to ensure that both the exams are
being conducted in different sessions.
After the payment is made, a Fee Payment Number will be generated, which must be
saved by the candidate for later use.
âAn application once submitted cannot be changed/rectified,â informs the official

Step 2: Download IIT JAM Admit Card
9. Candidates can download their IIT JAM 2018 admit cards from the official website of the
exam. After downloading the admit card, candidates need to take a print out of it and
carry it to the allotted exam center along with a valid ID proof (original).
Candidates not carrying the admit card and ID proof might not be allowed to appear for
JAM exam.
Step 3: Appear for IIT JAM
Next, candidates need to appear for IIT JAM 2018 exam at the allotted exam centre. It
may be noted that candidates can appear for one or two IIT JAM test papers. However,
candidates appearing for two test papers must ensure that both exams are being
conducted in different sessions.
Step 4: Check IIT JAM Result
IIT JAM result will be declared on the official website of the exam.
For each test paper in IIT JAM, candidates will be given an All India Rank (AIR). Based
on AIR, an All India Merit List will be prepared. Candidates whose names/ roll numbers
appear in the merit list will then be eligible for admission in MSc courses offered at IITs
and integrated PhD programmers offered at IISc.

Step 5: Fill Admission Form
Qualifying candidates then need to fill the admission form available on the official
website of JAM.
Note that irrespective of whether a candidate qualifies in one or two test papers, only
one duly-completed admission form needs to be submitted, informs the official website.
After filling the admission form, candidates need to pay a processing fee of Rs 600 in
the online mode through JOAPS.
Step 6: Check Admission List
After the submission of admission form along with the processing fee, an admission list
will be declared on the official website of the exam. After the declaration of the list,
offer letters will be sent by the respective admitting college/ institute(s) to candidates.
After receiving the offer letter, candidates need to submit an acceptance form along
with an advance seat booking fee in the online mode through JOAPS.
10. IIT JAM Pattern
IIT JAM exam is scheduled to be conducted as an online Computer Based Test (CBT).
IIT JAM 2018 exam pattern is such that there are seven test papers in the exam.
Candidates need to complete their respective test paper in three hoursâ duration. These
seven test papers along with their codes include:
The medium of instruction for test papers is English. There are a total of 60 questions
of 100 marks. These 60 questions are divided into three sections â A, B, and C.
Candidates need to attempt questions in all sections.
To understand the pattern of questions in each section, candidates can refer the table
below:
11. Marking Scheme
Section A: Out of a total of 30 questions, 10 questions are of one mark each and 20
questions are of two marks each. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for each
question (that holds one-mark weightage) answered incorrectly. Also, 2/3 marks are
deducted for each incorrect question which carries two marks weightage. There is no
negative marking for any question left unanswered.
Section B: Each correct answer in this section is awarded two marks. There is no
negative marking in this section.
Section C: Out of the total 20 questions, first 10 questions are of one mark each and
other 10 questions are of two marks each. There is no negative marking in this section
as well.
Note: Candidates need to select the answer for MCQ and MSQ type questions. To enter
the answer for NAT questions candidates can only use a mouse on a virtual numeric
keypad. At the end of three hours the computer will automatically close the
examination, informs the official website.
It may also be noted that candidates are allowed to use the online virtual calculator in
the IIT JAM exam. Therefore, candidates are recommended not to carry any calculators
with them to their IIT JAM exam center.
