Social Media Marketing is one of the important techniques of Digital Marketing. Social Media Marketing has become very important with the growing popularity of the Social Media Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat. Social Media Marketing is used to drive both Organic and Paid Traffic to your website.It has been estimated that on an average a person spends approximately 2 hours in Social Media per day and this is increasing day by day. Social Media Marketing is also known as SMM in the Digital Marketing. In this powerpoint, I have explained the basics of Social Media Marketing.

How to choose the right Social Media?  The correct Social Media platform selection depends on your Audience or Target Group.  If, you are targeting the young teenagers who feel very connected to a brand through visual effects then you may choose Instagram or Pinterest  For B2B Business, or if your Targett Group is the top level executives like CMO, CFO and so on, then LinkedIn would be the platform which you must be interested in.  Facebook is the most popular Social Media Platform, so no matter whatever your business is, being present in Facebook makes sense for you.  Also, it depends on the nature of the brand. If you are a brand where visual images makes more appeal to the customers like Restaurants or a Travel Destination, then Instagram or Pinterest makes more sense for you.
  7. 7. How to choose your Audience?  You can do a customer survey.  You can check the audience set which your competitors are targeting.  You can use Audience Insight tool of the various Social Media Platforms.  You can use the Google Analytics to understand your historic traffic.

Types of traffic tapped through Social Media Marketing  Through Social Media Marketing, you can tap both Organic and Paid Traffic.  To tap Organic Traffic, you need to put awesome and value-added contents and posts, so that people get attracted towards your Social Media Page.  When you are posting, you need to use the hashtags as hashtags play a pivotal role in Social Media, especially to get the Organic Traffic.  To tap the Paid Traffic, you need to spend money on Advertisement.  When it comes to Social Media Marketing, you need to follow the combination of both.  Twitter gives the highest Organic Reach compared to that of all the other Social Media Platforms.

  10. 10. How can the algorithm of Social Media affect you?  Social Media platforms can be classified into two types: A. One set of Social Media Platforms is governed through full algorithm like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn. B. Another set of Social Media Platforms is governed through partial algorithm like Twitter.  For the set which is governed through full algorithm, you need to post often with awesome contents.  For the set of Social Media Platforms, which is governed through partial algorithm you need to post frequently like 3-5 times a day.
  11. 11. Do I need to post manually?  You don’t need to post manually as you can have many tools through which you can schedule your posts.  Some of the tools are free and some are paid tools.  Some of the tools are: Buffer Hootsuite Crowdfire Tweetdeck Simply Measured Sprout Social

Does the same post works for each and every Social Media Platform?  No, the same post doesn’t work for all the Social Media Platforms.  You need to develop freshness of content for all the Social Media Platforms.  For instance, Twitter has the character limit of 280 per Tweet  Facebook has no such character limit.  Post in Instagram and Pinterest should be more in Image form while videos work very well in Facebook.
