- 9. Data privacy online – best practices Wild, wild west right now. The current legislation is insufficient for the new technology. Understand privacy policies – check your settings often. - 10. Online sharing – best practices 1/31/2011 Don’t use complete name, avoid last names. Don’t post personal addresses, home or cell phone number. Don’t post GPS whereabouts (Foursquare). Establish daily time limits for internet and cell use. Establish clear guidelines for posting content, pictures and videos. Never meet anybody offline you don’t personally know. If you sense changes in a child’s behavior, investigate early. Children tend to feel it’s their fault – help them see it is not. Encourage them to seek help when they need it.
