Higher Pay for Teachers
Many student agree that improving Soongil University is important. In my
opinion, Soongsil should increase teachers’ pay to be a better university.
There are several reason for my opinion; teachers could buy more things,
they would be happier and they would become better teachers. first,_____
teachers could buy more things. It is a fact that public transportation takes
three times as long to reach a destination. However, if teachers were able
to buy a new car, they could get to school much faster. This would allow
them more time to prepare better lessons. Secondly, teachers would be
happier because they could buy more clothes. According to experts, people
who dress well make a good impression and are more confident. The_____
university and Soongsil students would benefit greatly if their teachers were
happy good looking and confident. Finally, better teachers with higher____
qualifications could be hired. This would definitely help students to get____
higher grades. There is no doubt that students want an improved university.
Making it possible for a teachers to buy more helps them to become better
and happier. If teachers are satisfied, students will benefit in many ways.
Contact the university today and ask for higher pay_ for teachers. It’s a
small step to take to make a big difference.___________

Now you will read through your
paragraph and look for
mistakes.
Step four – editing
Structural Edits Logical Edits
 All sentences end with . ! ?  The topic sentence is strong
and easy to understand.
 All sentences have a subject
and verb; subject-verb
agreement (I go, she goes)
 The introduction is interesting to
the reader.
 The first word of every sentence,
proper names, and
abbreviations are capitalized.
Check for problems with I, it, if,
in, and is.
 The title is clear, strong, related
to the paragraph.
 Each new paragraph is
indented.
 Every sentence is directly
related to the topic sentence.
 There are no fragments or
clauses without sentences.
Check any sentence that starts
with Because, Since, or So to be
certain it is okay.
 Facts, statistics, and other
factual data have the source
listed (According to the Oxford
International Dictionary…)
 Plural nouns are used when
referring to general things. (I like
kittens. Students need to
study.)
 Details are interesting and
related to the topic.
 They’re, their, there are all used
correctly.
 The supporting ideas are
arranged in the best order
(strongest last, chronological,
etc)
 For example, for instance, like,
and such as are used correctly.
 The conclusion has a summary
of the main ideas.
 Adjectives and nouns are not
confused. (She has an activity
active personality.)
 The conclusion has a strong
closing statement (memento).
 Pronouns are used instead of
repeating nouns. (The monkey is
in the tree. The monkey It is very
cute.)

Use this checklist to help you
with this process. Page 76
