3. Shalu’s Background -
I was born in Patna, the capital of Bihar and lived there most of my life.
I have a Masters in History from Patna Women’s College and completed University Grants
Commission (UGC). I also have Masters in Business Administration from a UK university.
I travel a lot with my husband, not only in India but around the world. I first created my first
site called bihar.ws and then the online business took from there.
4. The Motivation Behind YouBihar.com -
I started YouBihar as a social networking site for the people of Bihar so that people can talk
about development and other issues facing Bihar as a state in India.
5. On Making ShaluSharma.com a Travel Niche
Blog -
I travel a lot and love it. I also do lots of outdoor activities and travel abroad to see my
family/friends in US, UK and Canada.
I decided to provide travel information as I felt was fully qualified to do it. Travel niche is a
very popular niche…..who doesn’t want to travel!
6. On Earning Money Online -
Advertising agencies approach me to provide them with space for their business on my site.
I also write for them and provide SEO services for them.
On whether it is possible to make money online, she says:
Yes and No.
Yes because, all you need is a website and some elbow-grease. You need to a put some
effort and make a name for yourself.
No because it’s not a quick money making scheme. It’s hard work and takes a lot of
patience.
7. On the State of Blogging in India
Blogging in India is not as big as in the western world.
But in recent years, more and more people are taking up and becoming successful.
In India, bloggers need to invest money in their business and look professional. It’s
definitely growing but has a long way to go.
8. On Best Money Earning Methods -
Once a website is ready, then start posting quality posts.
Once traffic is established, use affiliate marketing frameworks like
•Amazon
•ClickBank
•Commission Junction
…and other niche related networks.
Use social media for promotion such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
9. On Facing Gender Bias -
Sometimes, I did face.
There are more men in this field than women but it never bothered me.
Sometimes I get strange messages asking for phone numbers but all I have is my sandal
number to give!
10. On Content Marketing -
A systematic strategy has to be developed for content marketing.
Create longer posts (1000 words), use social media, curate content, guest post, and get
likes/shares/comments/tweets.
11. On Upcoming Products or Services -
An eBook is in the pipeline.
I am also considering the creation of a bookmarking site.
Other services are also there such as travel planning services.
