• “Management Stages” versus “Technical Stages”
• Decision points/ flexible partitions
• Managed by the Project Manager
• Use of Management stages is MANDATORY
• Number of stages is flexible – Minimum two
• Depends on the scale and risk
• There is no defined length of a management stage but
factors that influence it are: planning horizon, technical
stages, alignment with programme activities, and the
level of risk.

Editor's Notes Sticking to a plan Don’t have meetings in p2 as manage by exception. Only two meeting in End Stage/Exception assessment and Quality Review Say here that the most common one used are standard. Explain that Tolerances can not be used for change and change can not be used for risk, they are ringed fenced. Ask delegates to refer to page 102
Time & Cost main tollerence settings
Guide delegates to P102 table 10.1
Mention Risk Appetite – An organisations unique attitude to taking risks – will influence risk tolerance Why we have levels of controls
TM rases an Issue, PM raises an Exception Report Why we need stages and how many stages? Minimum. How far it is sensible to plan Make sure delegates are aware of the difference between Management and Technical stages. The Manual has a good description Make sure delegates are aware of the difference between Management and Technical stages. The Manual has a good description Ask delegates to remember the two time driven ones. What other controls are there
