SIXTH SENSE TECHNOLOGY

INTRODUCTION
Sixth sense is a gesture based wearable
computer system developed at MIT media lab by
Stevemann in 1994 and 1997 developed the headworn
gestural interface. In 1998 neckworn version was further
developed by pranav mistry and in 2009 both of whom
developed both hardware and software for both neckworn
and headworn versions of it.Sixth sense is a name for extra
information supplied by a wearable computer, such as the
device called Eyetap (mann), Telepointer(mann) and
“WuW” by pranav mistry.
What is sixth sense?
Mann referred to this wearable computing technology as
affording a “Synthetic Synesthesia of the sixth sense”, believing
that wearable computing and digital information could act in
addition to the five traditional senses.
Subsequently, other inventors have used the term sixth sense
technology to describe new capabilities that augment the
traditional five human senses.
In 2012-20013 patent applications, timo platt refer to their new
communications invention as creating a new social and personal
sense, i.e., a “Metaphorical sixth sense”, enabling users to sense
and share the “stories” and other attributes and information of
those around them.
WORKING
The sixth sense technology contains a pocket projector,
and a camera contained in a head mounted, hand held or
pendant –like, wearable device.
Both the projector and the camera are connected to a
mobile computing device in users pocket.
The projector projects visual information enabling
surfaces, walls and physical objects around us to be used
as interfaces.
The camera recognizes and tracks users hand gestures and
physical objects using computer-vision based techniques.
COLOUR MARKERS
It is at the tip of the user’s fingers.
Marking the user’s fingers with red, yellow, green, blue tape
help the web cam recognize the gestures
The movement and arrangement of these makers are
interpreted into gestures that act as interaction instructions for
the projected application interfaces
WORKING
The camera tracks the location of the colour markers at the
tips of the users fingers.
The movements and arrangements of these fiducials are
interpreted into gestures that act as interaction instructions
for the projected application interfaces.
The user attaches coloured tape to his or her finger tips, of
a colour distinct from the background, the software can
track the position of those fingers.
APPLICATIONS
In 2009 TED talk given by Pattie Maes was included
some applications on sixth sense technology, those
applications include:
Taking pictures
Gets book information
Get flight updates
Make a call
Drawing application
Check the time
DISADVANTAGES
The product is not yet released into the market.
There are no legal obligations as of now, because there are
some modifications still being made on the product itself.
There are some security concerns about this product.
This is invading others privacy which can be a huge
problem.
