CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a self-regulating business model that
assists a firm in becoming socially accountable—to itself, its stakeholders, and
the general public. Companies can be aware of the impact they have on all
parts of society, including the economic, social, and environmental. [4]
NESTLE FOR HEALTHIER KIDS – A GLOBAL INITIATIVE
Nutrition is critical to a child's healthy development. But, as is always the
case, theory is one thing and practice is quite another. Encouraging
children to eat more vegetables and fruits, ensuring their meals are as
nutritious as possible, and adding a variety of protein sources – including
plant-based options – can be difficult for parents and caregivers at times.
Nestlé's initiative of creating shared value extends support to all parents and
caregivers to raise healthier kids.
The wider ambition is to help 50 million kids to lead healthier lives by 2030.
Involving children in meal preparation encourages them to acquire healthier
eating habits — in short, their diet quality improves, with youngsters more
likely to consume fruits and vegetables. That's why we encourage and
promote 'togetherness,' or when parents and children cook together in
the kitchen. [3]
IMPACT OF INITIATIVE
The impact of this initiative is as follows:
• 60,000 tonnes of sugar has been removed since 2017.
• 10,000 tonnes of salt has been removed since 2017.
• Servings of micro-nutrient fortified food has been hiked to
196.6 billions in 2020.
• Included at least 750 million servings (80g) of veggies.
• Added at least 300 million pieces (16g) of nutrient-rich
grains, pulses, and bran to products, as well as extra nuts and
seeds;
• Completed the promise to cut saturated fats by 10% in all
relevant products that do not fulfill the Nestlé Nutritional
Foundation's saturated fat criterion. [3]
REVIEW OF INITIATIVE
Children who help prepare meals at home have better diets.
 When compared to those who never helped with meal
preparation, Canadian fifth graders who helped make family
meals at least once a week had a superior overall diet quality
 A cross-sectional study conducted in Australia found that boys
(not girls) with a "healthy" eating pattern were more involved
in dinner preparation than boys with a "energy-dense" eating
pattern.
 Helping with cooking was positively associated with adhering
to a healthy Mediterranean diet in 7th-9th graders in
Portugal. [3]
