It highlights Elizabeth Bennet, played by Keira Knightley, as the intelligent and independent main character. The film features beautiful English countryside landscapes, accurate costumes, and a lovely classical soundtrack. The adaptation is praised for having all the elements of a cinematic masterpiece and receiving high critical acclaim.
1. “Pride and Prejudice” from Joe Wright
Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. This novel
has been filmed on about ten occasions for both, film and television, but in this
work, I will talk about the film version made by the director Joe Wright in 2005,
wich is considered the best adaptación to movies of the famous romantic British
novel.
A good movie requires some good elements and "Pride and prejudice" has all of
them. The first element is its argument, it is quite trivial but very interesting. Mr.
and Mrs. Bennet, have five daughters, and they all live poorly in the English
countryside in the last decade of the eighteenth century. Mrs Bennet only
concern is to find suitable husbands for her daughters. The second element is a
good main character such as Elizabeth, the second daughter played by Keira
Knightley. She is 20 years old, she is intelligent, brave, independent, and she
does not agree to marry for convenience. She acts according to her own criterion,
and expresses her opinion against the secondary and dependent role of women
in society. The third element is the image, the photography and the landscapes
of the English countryside in this film are so beautiful, a real pleasure for the eyes.
Other remarkable elements are the costumes and the hairstyles, so appropriate
for the time and the personality of each character. Finally, the soundtrack, we can
enjoy beautiful classical music during all the movie. All of these elements
contribute to make this movie a real masterpiece.
Pride and Prejudice is one of the brighter British films in history. This version is
so brilliant that its quality has been compared to other great movies such as,
"Casablanca" and "Gone with the wind". It was nominated for four Oscars, won
nine awards and twenty eight other nominations. It has all the factors to be
considered a masterpiece. Seeing it is an intense pleasure for the senses and
the soul. Finally, I can say, the only bad thing about this movie is that you wouldn't
want it never ends.
