Working with government (CARDI, GDA and PDAs), private sector, farmer
associations, seed producers, and lead farmers to promote high yield stress
tolerant varieties and to strengthen seed systems to ensure sustainable
supply of good quality seeds

ASTV OBJECTIVES
1. Improved productivity: seeds of high-yielding flood- and drought-tolerant
rice varieties and good management practices
2. Develop an effective and rapid awareness and communication system to
timely deliver information about the new varieties
3. Strengthening seed systems: sustainable supply of good-quality seed and
training on seed production
4. Implement strategies that ensure efficient M&E, varietal tracking, impact
assessment, and gender and social equity

millers joined training sessions.
• After training, seed producers were
provided with foundation seeds for
registered seed production.

ACHIEVEMENT: VARIETY PROMOTION
• Seed production:
– 6.5 t of foundation seeds
– 90 t of certified seeds
• Variety promotion:
– 60 field demonstrations
– A total of 2,764 farmers participated
in field days and PVS (participatory
varietal selection) trials.
– 400 farmers were trained in
seed/paddy production and
postharvest technologies.
– 894 farmers received seed minikits.

samples of promoted varieties and 13
promising lines at different events
• Rice seed production training: 4 sessions in
the provinces with around 55 participants
• Working with one rice exporter, one seed
company and 22 seed producers: training
and providing foundation seeds
• 6 Radio programs on new varieties, growing
techniques and post harvest management
