NUMBER SYSTEM.pptx
1. NUMBER SYSTEM
• Number system is used to represent information in quantitative form.
• Some important types of number system :
• Binary
• Decimal Number System
• Octal Number System
• Hexa decimal Number System
2. Binary Number System
• In the binary number system there are only two symbols of possible digit
values 0&1.
• So, this base 2 system can be used to represent any quantity that can be
represented in any number system.
• Example : (101011001)2
3. Decimal Number System
• It is composed of 10 numerals or symbols from 0 to 9. It is also called the
base-10 system as it has 10 digits.
• Digit that contains most weight is called Most Significant Digit (MSD) & the
digits that least weight is the Least Significant Digit (LSD).
• Example : (2512)10
4. Octal Number System
• It has a base of eight which means it has eight unique symbols.
• The 8 unique symbols are 0 to 7
• Binary equivalents of octal number system
5. Hexa Decimal Number System
• It uses base- 16. Thus it has 16 digit symbols
• The 16 unique symbols are 0 to 9 and the letters A,B,C,D,E,F
• Binary equivalents of hexa decimal number system
6. CONVERSIONS
• The binary number system is the most important one in digital systems as it
is very easy to implement in Circuitry.
• The Decimal number system is important because it is universally used to
represent quantities outside a digital system.
• Octal & Hexa decimal provide and efficient means for the representing large
binary numbers.
