• Why Army was Against
Mujib?
• People Behind the coup
15 Aug Coup: A Critical Analysis
This coup was a very significant coup in the history. This type of coup was very 1st in the history of Indo-Pakistan
history. Some military personnel & 2 units operated that and changed an established govt.
This type of coup is very rare in history that led by the junior officers. This big events was so fast within very
short time. In that sense Rarook & Rashid made history.
It was shameful that how the govt collapsed. After the death of such leader no one of Rakkhi Bahini , Mujib
Bahini, Police, BDR came front. This failure was unforgiveable.
After the announcement of Dalim this created a havoc. All system and govt collapsed down. This was because of
the one person based political system in the state. If mujib was not killed definitely the coup would be failed.
The relation between the leaders of Al and Army was not so good from Pakistan period. There was so
misunderstanding between them. Only mujib kept contact with army. Other politicans avoided army personnel.
In the event of 15 Aug the role of Zia, Khaled Mosharrof & Shafayet Zamil was very mysterious. Though the last
two was very close of the president but they were seen in relaxed mood after that incident.
There was no protection in the Army HQ on that that day. That’s why Dalim came and took the CAS from HQ.
if there was protection then the nation might not see the coup of 3rd and & 7th Nov.
No one thought abvout air strike. If anyone thought about that then this two attacking unit could be stopped.
Farook & Rashid was concerned only about the weak Rakkhi Bahini. But they didn’t even thought about the 46
Infantry Brigade. Why? There must have relation with Shafayet Jamil with the killers.
Aftermath of Coup
• Indemnity Bill
• Power go to some junior majors
• Moshtak was president in name all
the power were in the hand of
Farook & Rashid
• The killers of Mujib started staying
in Bangabhaban
• People were in Dark about the
current condition of the state
2nd Coup in Dhaka Cantonment
Led by Brig Khaled Mossaroff, Shafat Jamil and others obedient to him
Arrest Zia and impose him to resign from army
Declare himself as CAS and made Abu Sayem, former Chief justice President
Gave the killers chance to leave the country in exchange Moshatq left the Presidency
It was a bloodless coup
Jail Killing (3rd Nov 1975)
Counter coup (7th Nov 1975)
Zia wanted help from Taher as Taher had an influence among the soldiers
Taher freed zia from home arrest
They killed Khaled Mosharrof and his associates
Rumors about Mosharraf's affiliation with India aggravated army suspicion of this coup
Many JSD (Jatiyo Shomajthantrhik Dol: National Socialist Party) elements infiltrated the army in early 1975. On 6–7 November 1975
some of the JSD elements distributed leaflets and agitated soldiers against the officer class of the army. JSD tried to control the
counter-coup organized by Abu Taher .
Conclusion
• After killing of mujib till the regime of Ershad the democracy was
Absent totally. Political unstability break downed the speed of
development in Bangladesh. This was the greed for the power the
lead Bangladesh backwardness. The greedy officers engage in
themselves for power our country lag behind. People was in a fix
because of that and all the activities was that time was conducting
abnormally. We lost our fathe of the nations because of some greedy
people. that was the dark history of Bangladesh ever.
