ealthcare is one of the essential parts of care all
Hover the world. No one can afford to be
complacent about one’s health. Moreover, good
health is necessary to be a productive citizen of the country.
Thus, without having a sound healthcare system in place,
no nation can ensure development in the long run. With that
being said, the contribution of emerging medical healthcare
leaders is of great significance for the excellent healthcare
system in place.
No one should underestimate the value of good medical
professionals. It is of utmost importance for any nation to
have talented leaders in healthcare to build the most capable
healthcare system. The competence of medical
professionals plays a very significant role in good health of
the people. Resourceful emerging medical professionals are
the greatest asset any nation can have. They lead
courageously and considerately to ensure the patients' well-
being through delivering good healthcare services to the
patients.
Today, having good medical educational facilities in the
nation is paramount for creating valuable emerging leaders
in the medical field. The infrastructure of the hospitals with
all the latest facilities for delivering the most competent
medical services to the people is one of the most significant
pillars of a sound healthcare system. All the emerging
healthcare leaders need to be innovative to play a valuable
role in this precious service.
Young healthcare leaders are most passionate about
contributing their best for the welfare of human society by
helping the citizens ensure good health in all the way they
can. They prioritize achieving the clinical goals by doing
their best. However, education is one of the most potent
tools that can be used to change the dynamics of the people
in any field.
Editor’s Desk
5. The emerging medical professionals adapt scientific
approaches in their organization. They believe in delivering
value scientifically to the patients. They adopt a culture of
innovation at their organizations in providing the most
pragmatic healthcare solutions to the patients.
They are courageous as well as considerate. Being
courageous helps them to confront even the challenges in
the healthcare system with their confidence and
competence. Whereas being considerate helps them to deal
with patients empathetically.
In this edition of “The 10 Most Emerging Leaders in
Healthcare, 2021”, we have enlisted such emerging
healthcare leaders who are playing a significant role in
improving the healthcare system by leading with courage
and consideration.

to an overburdened &
overpriced healthcare system.
12. Affordability is a concern with Medication.
Understanding the need to address the rising cost
of medication Baybridge Pharmacy is changing
the landscape of pharmaceutical services. Greg Savino -
Founder & CEO opened Baybridge in 2015 with the idea
of change pushing him forward. “If everyone in healthcare
was truly committed to patient care, the industry will be
able to provide more cost-effective care with better
healthcare outcomes”, guides Greg. Greg asks healthcare
leaders to operate under this principle.
Strong, Calculative, Persistent, & Realistic
Making a decision at 16 or 17 years old that potentially
paves one’s career path is not easy. Fortunately, Greg
Savino had guidance from his family to decide to pursue a
degree in pharmacy. Although having no healthcare
personnel in the family whatsoever, selecting a career that
can provide financial stability for his future was very
influential. He knew little to nothing about pharmacy until
after starting at St John's University College of Pharmacy
for a 6-year doctorate degree. Only then did Greg start to
work in a pharmacy and learn all that goes unseen.
During school as a Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy
Intern and post-school as a Pharmacist, Greg Savino spent
10 years with Walgreens. Despite rapid growth to managing
and operating the front store and pharmacy of their high
revenue specialty pharmacy in the Bronx, the limitations
and restrictions enacted by Walgreens didn’t allow him the
control he desired. In 2015, after just a few short years as a
pharmacist, Greg opened Baybridge. Although starting
small, he knew what it would eventually grow into.
Putting Customer-first
Greg asserts “I am driven by change and the process of
enabling that change is building something from the ground
up, exceeding expectations, and creating disbelief. These
are all tied together.”
Greg typically does not look within the healthcare sector for
inspiration. He looks to his childhood. His parents are a
huge part of the reason he has learned to become the person
he is today; kind, but strong, calculative, but adventurous,
and persistent, but realistic.
“A little story I like to tell people about myself is that as a
child, the day after Halloween, every year I would set up a
table outside on the sidewalk and sell all the candy I
received the day before. I was a businessman before I even
13. know what that meant. In addition, I have also had two
professional mentors throughout my career that have taught
me the value of pharmacy and providing healthcare. One of
which was my pharmacy manager when I worked in a
corporate retail chain and still remain friends with today.
At present, I constantly surround myself with like-minded
individuals from whom I am always learning”, narrates
Greg.
Successful Program
Greg Savino is always searching for solutions for a constant
issue in healthcare – cost. In December of 2019, he rolled
out Sparta Rx Programs, a series of programs designed to
give the patient’s a fixed low-price assurance on their out-
of-pocket cost. Baybridge Pharmacy’s most dominant
revenue stream stems from Sparta Dermatology, its
program specifically for the Dermatology market.
Greg’s team has successfully created this program for every
patient – young, elder, insured, uninsured, etc. – where they
can receive any medication from the program for no more
than $24. That list currently offers over 60 medications that
can treat some of the most prevalent conditions within
dermatology, including acne, psoriasis, eczema, and
rosacea. Baybridge Pharmacy has a large sales team and
takes a classic, boots-on-the-ground approach in marketing
its program to physicians. The response has been
outstanding, with over a thousand active prescribers at any
given time.
The 10 Most Emerging Leaders in Healthcare, 2021
14. Communication with Every Patient
Baybridge Pharmacy does not operate with an abundance of
advanced technology. That’s just not how it works with
them. The company operates with the same electronics
equipment that most other pharmacies also operate. The
difference is the level of service they provide. The
organization is attentive, communicative, responsible, and
honest. These attributes combined with a thorough business
plan have created substantial outcomes.
Baybridge Pharmacy communicates with every patient by
either phone, text, or in person. It also maintains good
relationships with the prescribers that actively use the
service for its patients.
Time-efficient and Interpersonal Skills
Taking Greg Savino’s knowledge and experience from the
retail pharmacy and applying it to a technology company
that will have a vaster impact has been in progress for a few
years already. Greg loves retail pharmacy, but his reach is
limited. He wants to create change in healthcare in a
positive way and he will achieve that through InfinityRx, an
emerging PBA (Pharmacy Benefits Administrator) with
advanced proprietary technology. Although Baybridge
Pharmacy is not a technologically advanced company, Greg
sees the value of technology in healthcare and is drawn to
those looking to better the industry.
InfinityRx is a multi-faceted company offering:
Data, via vast reporting solutions for pharmaceutical

financial assistance program management and legal
compliance.
Fraud, waste, and abuse monitoring to ensure program
•
participants are abiding to program guidelines.
A suite of options, for pharmaceutical manufacturers,
•
with medication distribution channels and pharmacy
networks.
Classic Approach with Modern Thought Process
Over the years, Baybridge Pharmacy underwent 3
renovations; 2 - within the current walls and 1 - taking over
a neighboring storefront. With this growth in business,
came a growth in staff. Culturing a team to be committed
and focused on patient care, while also being conscious of
the monetary success of the business is the greatest
achievement to date. Adapting during extremely volatile
years in the retail pharmacy industry was essential. Profit
margins were cut razor-thin, audits from pharmacy benefit
managers (the very profitable middlemen in pharmacy)
were relentless, and the competition was attempting to copy
and implement Baybridge’s marketing ideology into their
businesses.
Despite all that, Baybridge Pharmacy’s ability to execute is
the primary reason it continued to grow. By 2019, it was
th
ranked the 46 fastest growing health care company in the
United States. It was then that the attention on the company
started to build. By late 2019, the company entered an
acquisition agreement with an emerging private equity
firm’s pharmacy division, Optio Rx that would close in June
of 2020.
Baybridge Pharmacy rolled out its latest marketing
endeavor in December of 2019, Sparta Dermatology, to
Baybridge Pharmacy as well as two other NY pharmacies
undergoing acquisition by Optio Rx. This gives its program
greater geographic reach, now spanning 3 states and over
30 counties. The company’s next move is taking Sparta
Dermatology to the West Coast and implementing the
program in Optio’s California pharmacies.

Sommerfeld
Helping People Radically Change their
Health through Science of Sound Nutrition
The sound body is the product of the sound mind and
sound nutrition. Having a healthy mind and healthy
nutrition plays the most important role in the
overall healthy development of people. It is believed that
mental health and physical health are interrelated, and
Healthy development of people means having physical
fitness and mental toughness.
“All health challenges can be improved by good nutrition,”
believes Audrey Sommerfeld, a healthcare leader. Having
spent 3 decades in companies and startups across nutrition,
wellness, skincare, and OTC medications, Audrey is
committed to helping people live better lives. Currently, she
is the Founder and CEO of Jump To Health, Inc., a
company aiming to provide meal plans and education on
eating healthy for different lifestyles and health concerns.
A Take on Today’s Healthcare
According to Audrey, healthcare today is about helping
those already sick trying to get better or manage their
illnesses. She hopes to begin to shift as a society to
prevention – to more education on the role of nutrition. She
expresses, “Today our physicians and health workers get
very little education on nutrition – some sites say 8 hours or
less in their career. We don’t teach this in school either. So
consumers rely on the food industry to tell us what is
healthy, and it is impacting our weight and our health.
Sugar is cheap, it is addictive, and it is in all of our food,
and it is making us sick.” It was this realization that led her
to form Jump to Health Inc.
Jump To Health is focused on education and a health
Journey – to help inspire people with information,
recipes, tools a community of support, recognition,
and rewards. It has a12 week Journey guarantee
because once you start on the path to better health –
you get inner fit. Your health improves from the inside
out and Jump To Health does this with products based
on sound nutrition science, not on hype.
Helping People Take Charge of Their Health
Audrey opines that today, we are bombarded with tv
commercials and information that makes it confusing
to know what is healthy, and our diets are loaded with
sugar. 3 out of 4 adults are overweight, and almost 1
in 2 are obese. And our kids – are suffering as a result.
Today 1 in 3 kids are obese setting them up for shorter
lives. Diabetes is now becoming a childhood disease
instead of adult-onset diabetes. Diseases like Diabetes,
Cancer, Gall stones, Fatty Liver Disease, Gout,
Arthritis, High Blood Pressure, Stroke Sleep Apnea,
Asthma, and other health issues are on the rise, and all
are related to being overweight. ADHD is now a
household name. 1 in 20 kids are already on
medication for mood and attention issues. ADHD has
grown over 500% since the 1980s. Heart disease is
becoming a younger and younger issue – and experts
predict that today’s kids will have heart attacks as
young as age 30.
Audrey firmly believes that healthy nutrition can play
a big part in helping fight these health issues and Jump

20. To Health™ is here to help. It offers a Health Journey – and
it starts with providing a healthy breakfast. It helps with a
better breakfast, better tools to help people take back charge
of their health.
Jump To Health’s big hairy goal is to end sugar addiction,
obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and all health challenges
that can be improved by good nutrition. It does this by
providing education on nutrition, simple product solutions
and kits, and meal plans, programs, and recipes for free to
its members.
Providing Highest Quality Protein Rich Food
Audrey mentions that protein quality in the protein shakes
make the difference and Jump To Health has a unique Tri-
Sorb Protein Blend™ to better build lean muscle, boost
immune health, and help one feel satisfied. It combines this
with patented and clinically studied nutrients shown to
boost more protein into one’s lean muscle +45% more with
a special amino acid, and +25% more with a special
botanical herb. All this helps to make it easy to digest for
young and old alike and give athletes better performance
too. And with a patented, clinically studied prebiotic fiber –
shown to help boost gut health, mood and focus.
Moreover, Audrey also shares that today, 1 in 2 kids, and 2
out of 3 adults are not getting enough calcium for strong
bones, teeth, muscles, and hormone regulation. The news
show more kids are getting broken bones as a result. This is
why Jump To Health’s ‘Shake That Tastes Like Cake™’
also includes nutrients to aid more calcium absorption up –
up to 50% more. And its special proprietary sweetener
system is clinically shown to help blood sugar, help athletes
have better-sustained energy and performance, and has fat-
burning properties too.
Practical Examples of Improvement in Health of People
Travis Black was overweight, not happy with himself, he
was prediabetic (A1 C was 6.4), his triglycerides were high,
and due to a work injury was not able to exercise. With
Jump To Health not only did he lose 50 pounds and go from
a 55” waist to 40”, but also his A1C is now 5.1 and he
lowered his triglycerides 100 points.
Julie Snowbarger and her husband Mark have made
significant strides in their health. Julie has lost 50 pounds
and gained new energy, and Mark has lost weight to the
point where his doctor removed his blood pressure
medications.
Valuing Variety of Ideas and Inputs
Audrey says that teamwork, thoughtful challenging of
beliefs, passion for change, and transparency in everything
is important as a business leader. She believes that more
brains are better than one because a good idea can come
from anywhere or anyone.
Every great dream
begins with a
dreamer. Always
remember, you have
within you the
strength, the patience,
and the passion to
reach for the stars, to
change the world.

21. People at Jump To Health try to listen, take constructive
feedback, and create a team culture where they value ideas
and input.
Taking Guidance from People Who Tells the Truth
In her advice to emerging entrepreneurs, she says “Your
greatest competition is within yourself, and when you focus
on the greater benefit for the consumer, you both win.
During my career, I had many great mentors and I think it is
important to find those people you can rely on to tell you
the truth, to be a good sounding board, and who hold you
accountable to be the best that you can be. Push yourself to
learn, to listen, and never stop growing”
Helping Millions of People to Have a Healthy Living
In the next five years, Jump To Health hopes to take its
mission global. Obesity and health issues are great around
the world. In five years, it hopes to dramatically grow its
company and its mission and to have millions of people
share their journey back to healthy living with others. It
offers great word-of-mouth incentives, and its goal is to
help whole families, communities radically change their
future health starting today.

24. We live in a digital era, where technologies are
emerging faster than we can even experience.
Humanity has come a long way to make living
better in every manner possible. As much as technological
advancements have changed the industrial and economic
sectors, the game-changing improvements in healthcare are
immense.
The ever-improving technology in the health sector has
saved countless lives. The right invention of X-ray
machines to advanced surgical practices and the utilization
of Artificial Intelligence further develops existing
technologies that can be groundbreaking to make treatments
more accessible and increase life expectancies.
Innovations in Healthcare Technologies
The pandemic has disrupted lives around the globe, creating
chaos and fear of demise. Though vaccines are being
developed at a rapid pace and delivered worldwide, it is of
utmost importance to stay safe and take necessary
precautions. Over the past year, it was possible to identify
and treat the symptoms of the most primary cases to the
most severe due to advanced technology. In the last decade,
many disrupting technologies have emerged with nothing
but the patient in mind.
Information Technology: IT has availed health
practitioners to store and retrieve data related to patient's
health records, enhancing patient information through a
legible format that is easy to use. These data help in
consulting the patient and diagnosing the disease, reducing
the chance of medication errors. Additionally, alerts on
medication can help in adhering to specific treatments and
schedules. The recorded data collected can lead to
uniformity of practice across all health practitioners and
improve common conditions based on past dossiers.
3D Printing: 3D printing has a vast number of applications,
but it is used to create implants or joints for surgery in the
medical field. It is frequently used in developing prosthetics
as it can make perfect matching limbs.
Robotics: Robotic Surgery has been around for a while.
Robotics provides precision, flexibility, and control to a
surgeon's hand to operate as non-intrusive as possible.
Virtual Reality: The usage of VR devices has increased at
an accelerated pace. Particularly, Virtual Reality has helped
medical students have a virtual experience of real-life
procedures and a better visual understanding of human
anatomy.
Wearables: What began as a fitness tracker to track heart
rate has spread widely in becoming a potential device to
prevent or alert severe conditions beforehand.
Patients focus on prevention and maintenance, demanding
information about their health more frequently in today's
digital age. Healthcare companies invest in wearable

25. devices that can provide updated monitoring of patients
determining the plausibility of health mishaps.
A tweak in wearable tech has allowed even to detect
cardiovascular anomalies earlier. Wearables can also track
calorie levels, hydration, and even body temperature. A
sweat meters detector is used for people with diabetes to
monitor blood sugar levels. Oximeters monitor the amount
of oxygen carried in the blood, often used by patients with
respiratory illnesses.
Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence (AI)
represents the epitome of medical innovation. Healthcare
can best implement AI in areas like precision medicine,
drugs discovery, and genomics.
AI can power a sophisticated pattern recognition, which can
be availed to have personalized therapies tailored around
the genetics and lifestyle of patients. Biotech and
pharmaceutical companies are already using machine
learning algorithms to shorten the drug development cycle.
Nanotechnology: Nanotechnology is on the verge of a
transformational change that can operate as a precise drug
delivery system using nanoparticles and nanodevices. The
so-called nanomedicine age could be capable of becoming
cancer treatment tools or minuscule surgeons. Though
smart pills are already used for colonoscopy, it won't take
long to see more practical nanotechnology applications.
Feeding your Thoughts
The mere thought of virtually visiting a doctor from
hundreds or thousands of miles away would have been
difficult to believe a few decades ago. From remote
monitoring tools and wearable medical technology to
nanotechnology's precise drug delivery system, healthcare
has evolved rapidly. Healthcare is a sector that requires
highly skilled individuals with years of study; it also
demands infrastructure and tools. The robust innovation in
healthcare is changing the landscape of the industry every
year.
The advent of innovative technologies has made digital
health plausible, which have been proven revolutionary in
healthcare. The probability of innovation in healthcare is
vast, and we can expect technologies that can gradually
increase immunity to minimize minor illnesses, infections.
The future of healthcare moves hand in hand with
technology; we have to prepare for the changing world,
which is the only way forward.

26. any businesses are born from the necessity to
Mmeet the needs of the customers. For Michael
Collura, it was about making personal
connections, building relationships, and giving the clients
the chance to maintain their independence. He is the
President and CEO of In Home Personal Services, one of
the largest home care companies in Illinois, and growing
throughout the United States. He enjoys his role not
because of the success, but because of the fact that his
success is enjoyed by so many others. Michael has
surrounded himself with talented individuals that make up
in areas where he falls short. He believes his team is the
secret to his continued growth and success. With such a
talented team by his side, he decided to expand the business
into a franchise system. Today he is offering entrepreneurs
the opportunity to be a part of this amazing brand and
history.
A Leader with Strong Business Skills
In Home Personal Services set out to be an innovative and
forward-thinking company focused on quality care to the
seniors. Since day one Michael and his team have proudly
served the community with those same values. “We are here
to provide care to seniors, veterans, and persons with
disabilities. In Home Personal Services sees the industry,
our opportunity, and our place within the industry in a very
different way. I guess that is what makes us a leader”, says
Michael.
A Reliable Home Care Provider
IHPS service models include a wide array of care options
that are all tailored to meet the individual care needs of
those who have trusted the company since 2004 to be their
provider. The team provides the care that is needed. No
long-term contracts or commitments, no hourly minimums,
no surprises. What makes the company stand out the most is
the way it has developed, trained, and deliver the care. It
has seen challenges, needs of those it cares for as well as
their families and the healthcare system as a whole. The
company has developed many advantages within the
franchise system, and it enjoys being able to bring the
difference in the care it provides to the community and
clients.
Rise and Shine in the Times of Pandemic
Michael states that during pandemic crisis, those who were
on the front lines of the company were not willing to
surrender to the task facing them. It has been a tragic
example of courage and hope. There were countless
caregivers and care providers who knew about all the risks
they were facing with Covid and they never asked to be
reassigned, take time off, or abandon the seniors who
trusted IHPS. These caregivers and frontlines didn't just
ensure the safety of those who are most vulnerable, they
also ensured IHPS as a brand kept its promise. While an
unspeakable tragedy for so many, it was also the most
inspiring year for In Home Personal Services because the
company's front-line workers never backed down and they
never stopped doing what they needed to do. They knew the
danger and still, they performed their duties to ensure the
lives of others were made safe. That was true courage.
Covid is as permanent to the healthcare system as the flu. It
is here forever. IHPS has already developed new protocols
and training to ensure the ongoing safety of those it cares
for. It has developed a wholly unique and proprietary Acute
Home Care system for the delivery of care that meets
pandemic standards for safety and infection control. The
organization's ability to care for these patients today,
tomorrow, and those “long haulers” is already in place and
while it hopes to never have to prove its ability to do so, it
is ready for the next pandemic in every way it can possibly
be.

27. A Take on Leadership
While sharing his thoughts on leadership Michael
emphasizes on Integrity. Integrity is a significant part of In
Home Personal Services and its leadership training. For
Michael, it is the single most important human attribute that
is often the most elusive. “Having true integrity today in
our world would bring about the radical change that
unfortunately most of our population is unable to recognize,
acknowledge and achieve,” Michael asserts.
Removing Obstacles for Others
In his advice to upcoming entrepreneurs, Michael says
“First, do it because you care. This is not a business for
those without a genuine desire to care for others. Second,
do it your way. If you want to lead, then forge your own
path. I speak to prospective franchisees all the time and
they ask me about the growth and success of other
franchisees we have. My response is simple. Do you want to
work up to their potential or your own? While some may
see the value in benchmarking themselves against others or
see this as a means to measure their own potential. I see it
as a limitation you already entering into.”
He adds, “I say nothing about what I have achieved was
done because I cared about what others were doing. I made
my own path and today we are a brand being recognized in
this article for just that. Nothing about us that is unique or
innovative would exist if we just followed suit and worked
to be like everyone else. Finally, embrace failure. If you find
that word to be upsetting, you are not ready to be an
entrepreneur. Because those of us that truly succeed first
had to fail.”

31. Robert Lauritzen
An Ardent Leader on a Mission to Transform Radiology
According to WHO, nearly two-thirds of the world’s
population has no access to diagnostic imaging due
to which people are suffering needlessly from
preventable diseases. Access to diagnostic imaging services
has a great impact on public health with the creation of
images of internal structures using X-rays or other physical
waves, such as ultrasound and electromagnetic waves.
Unfortunately, current shortages of human resources and
obsolete or broken equipment are making it difficult for
radiologists and biomedical engineers to provide adequate
access in the creation of such images.
With a mission to transform radiology by providing better
tools for radiologists worldwide, Robert Lauritzen teamed
up with Akshay Pai, Mads Nielsen, Martin Lillholm and
Erik Dam to form Cerebriu, a company that improves
workflow efficiency, quality and patient outcomes in
diagnostic imaging.
Robert is an international IT life sciences executive with
25+ years of management experience across high-tech
MedTech start-ups and large corporations across pharma
and IT service providers. He has held various leadership
roles for different pharmaceutical companies.
Dedicated to the Development of Radiology
Cerebriu is an AI radiology company automating MRI
workflows for faster and personalized diagnostic imaging.
The company improves workflow efficiency and quality at
the point of care. Its software solution, Cerebriu Apollo,
achieves this by automating MR-image acquisition
protocols and triage during examination providing decision
support at key stages of the diagnostic process. Ultimately,
this results in improved productivity, prioritizing the right
patients at the right time, and less stress for clinicians. It
aims to democratize radiology, by enabling more scanning
and more patients, without burning out the incredible
radiologists.
“I believe we must rethink radiology to help a vastly
growing global need for medical imaging-based
diagnostics, and we can make a significant difference
transforming the workflow using advanced technologies of
our era,” says Robert.
Bringing a Real Difference in People’s Lives
Apollo brings the innovation of smart protocol in real time
enabling adapting scanning protocols based on the findings
of initial sequences acquired or cut short the examination
with no findings.

32. Talking about society, that includes reduced nonacute
admissions, potentially improved health outcomes with the
prospect of the smaller length of stay, reduced the chemical
contrast gadolinium consumption and contrast waste
management costs, complete scanning of stroke mimics,
early detection of stroke chameleons, a higher degree of
intervention and later any neurological disease.
Impact of Pandemic
Sharing his views on the impact of pandemic, Robert
mentions that it showed him and his team two things. One
is the need for providing the necessary tools for clinicians
to deal with the increased demand for healthcare. As of
now, radiology cannot keep up with the increase demand
for neuroimaging. Robert and his team have seen that there
is an increase in stroke patients due to the pandemic, yet not
enough radiologists to cope with it, that’s a huge threat to
its healthcare system and society.
The second thing he mentions is the need for unlocking the
power of data in order to provide better care. The more
hospital data is shared, the more it can capitalize on AI to
reduce the bottleneck in the healthcare system and provide
better healthcare.
Simplifying Radiology
In the opinion of Robert, the future of healthcare is medical
professionals augmented by AI. He further states that every
hospital generates around 50 petabytes of data, yet less than
3% is actionable, analysed and used. If it manages to better
capitalize on that data, undoubtedly opportunities arise. AI
will not replace the role of clinicians, but rather boost them,
relieving them of more straightforward cognitive tasks, to
let them focus on cases where their expertise is needed the
most.
The teams at Cerebriu thrive with diversity and equal
opportunities. Half of the company have foreign
backgrounds, and more than a third are female, which is
pretty good in a tech startup.
A True High-Performance Team
Cerebriu brings together the smartest brains in the field of
AI/ML with a distinct purpose to impact healthcare in the
world. Each one of the management team has a minimum
of a decade of experience in their field of expertise.
Moreover, Denmark has been ranked as one of the highest
AI readiness countries by Oxford Insights and the
International Research Development Centre (IDRC).
Best Advice for an Early Startup
In his advice to emerging business leaders aspiring to
venture into the healthcare arena, Robert says, “Learn fast.
Fail fast. Embrace the challenge and pivot instead of
clinging to an idea, that just does not work. Ensure to
surround yourself with talent who could go on this journey
with you when it’s great, and when it’s challenging. You will
hear many times the word NO, but with courage,
dedication, and patience, your chances of hearing YES are
much higher.”

35. n 2014 I was working in TV, getting a bit fed up with
Ithe lack of coverage of environmental issues. Around
that time, I was scrolling on Facebook and came across
the trailer for the film Albatross. I saw the most beautiful,
fluffiest Albatross chicks, dying of starvation in their nests
with their bellies full of plastic. It was heart-breaking; I was
totally devastated and felt a grief unlike anything I’d ever
experienced when seeing human-caused environmental
issues. I think it was something about seeing everyday
items that I used - my brand of toothbrush, ink cartridges,
bottle caps - literally causing the death of something so
magnificent. And I knew in that moment I couldn't just sit
back and allow this to happen.
From that day on I set about doing something about it. I had
no idea City to Sea, which began with a music video, would
go on to become one of the UK’s leading voices on plastic
pollution or that our campaigns would have a significant
impact on reducing pointless plastics on the high-street, in
supermarkets and at government level.
From petitions and media campaigns, to grassroots
community action and education in schools, our work stops
hundreds of tonnes of plastic from getting into our
ecosystems each year. For example, in 2016 we ran our first
consumer campaign. It was a simple ask, for all major
retailers in the UK to stop selling plastic cotton buds and
switch to paper instead. What happened next was a tidal
wave of people power.
Over 150,000 signed a petition and soon major retailers
were responding. Before long all nine of the major
supermarkets had pledged to #SwitchtheStick. This means
that since 2017 over 420 tonnes of single-use, non-
recyclable plastic has been saved annually. In 2020 the UK
government caught up and completely banned plastic cotton
bud sticks with similar legislation expected across all of the
EU by this summer.
Leadership is, if anything, about creating impact and City to
Sea are certainly doing that.
City to Sea started as an idea in my head on a riverbank but
has since evolved into a global campaigning organisation
with dozens of members of staff. Since those early days
we’ve saved hundreds of millions of pieces of plastic
through award winning campaigns. At the heart of all of
these campaigns is behaviour change insight and science to
inspire and drive change from the grassroots up. Making
sure we have impact in all we do.
Learning from the early #SwitchTheStick campaign, what
we advocate for are positive solutions made easy. For
example, one of our most successful campaigns Refill,
shows how you can swap the easy convenience of buying a
single-use plastic bottle when you are out and about, to a
free Refill found through our geo-located app that tells you
where you can eat, drink and shop without the packaging.
Making switches easy is and showing how they can be done
is a big part of what we do. So here are 3 simple steps for
you to take towards plastic-free living. And remember, you
aren’t taking these steps alone but as part of a global
movement. And when you take these steps you are not just
stopping plastic pollution but you’re inspiring others to do
the same.
1. Do a plastic audit
Knowledge is power. When you are cutting back on the
amount of plastic you use, do a plastic audit and collect
your waste for a week. This not only helps you get a feel for
what you’re using, but you can also start to cut out the easy
to replace items.
Our friends over at Everyday have created a super simple
programme with everything you need to audit your waste
for week and understand what you’re using, and what the
impact of that would be over a year. After doing this, you
can start to think about how you can cut out the plastic that
you use the most.
2. Choose to Reuse
We are proud to enable you eat, drink and shop without the
plastic. It’s time to avoid using disposable, single-use
culture and choose to reuse, as there are plenty of reusable
options out there. It has now become easy to reduce plastic
footprint without breaking the bank.
3. Go Room to Room
The more you look around your house the more you see
single-use plastics. From bathroom cleaners to the
vegetables you got the supermarket. Plastic gets
everywhere. But whether your worried about nappies or
nectarines we’ve got you covered with our plastic-free
living guide.
The tides are turning on plastic pollution. More and more
people are moving away from harmful single-use plastics.

36. As time has passed my role as a leader in campaigning on
plastics has changed from one of needing to inspire and
energise people to one of channelling people’s energy (yes
people like you!). People are demanding change and
businesses and governments alike are beginning to sit up
and notice.
It’s now all of our jobs, as leaders, to keep the pressure up
and to make sure we make truly sustainable choices away
from single-use plastics.
And if you’ve got plastics nailed, you can take your journey
further and have a read of my latest book, How to Save the
World for Free, which has hundreds of ways you can
protect not just our oceans, but our entire, precious planet.
Just in my lifetime, we’ve lost half the world’s wildlife.
HALF of it. Gone. And it’s our responsibility to make sure
we don’t lose the other half.

environmentalist, author of How to Save the
World for Free, keynote speaker and founder
of City to Sea, a UK-based organisation
running campaigns to stop plastic pollution at

Creating Better Medical Solutions by
Developing Programmable Nano Carriers
Healthcare industry is one of the most important
industries among all industries in the world.
Ensuring the good health of people by applying
the latest advances in the industry is an important goal all
medical institutions and leaders pursue in this field.
Technological advances can be incremental or disruptive.
Of the different technologies in the healthcare industry
Nanotechnology and specifically DNA nanotechnology is
holding the greatest promise for healthcare industry's
disruption. DNA is the molecule that stores and transmits
genetic information in biological systems. The field of DNA
nanotechnology takes this molecule out of its biological
context and uses its abilities to assemble structural motifs
and then to connect them together. This field has had a
remarkable impact on nanoscience and nanotechnology, and
has been revolutionary in our ability to control molecular
self-assembly.
Taking DNA nanotechnology a step further, an avid
healthcare leader, Roy Farfara MD is utilizing DNA
machinery to create better medical solutions. 6 years ago,
Dr. Farfara founded TrioxNano in Israel and began his most
important endeavour of creating programmable nano
machines to better deliver APIs to their target.
Developing the Basis for Programming Medicine -
S.M.A.R.T Nanoparticles Platform
TrioxNano started in 2015 to develop programmable
biologic nano carriers that are able to accurately deliver
payloads to their target. The company developed the
S.M.A.R.T (Stimuli Multi Adjusted Responsive
Technology) nanoparticles platform for intelligent delivery
of chemotherapy to cancer cells. S.M.A.R.T platform
opened a window to a vast fields of inventions, of
intelligent nanoscale computerized machines that are able
to sense a combination of multiple variables (at least 2) in
their environment and exert action of unloading active
payloads based on preprogramed mechanisms. The
disadvantage with SMART was it could only be
programmed at the time the particle was manufactured.
Transcending Medicine by Programming It
Dr. Farfara founded TrioxNano with a vision to transcend
medicine by programming it. As a surgeon in the urology
department, Dr. Farfara was treating patients with kidney,
bladder and prostate cancers. He became well aware of the
limited and relatively primitive options offered to metastatic
patients (surgery / chemotherapy / radiation) and decided to
tackle the problem from another angle and try solve it. The
company’s technology based on DNA machinery was
developed and optimized through the last 6 years by
intensive research done by TrioxNano’s ultra smart team
that includes except Dr. Farfara proficient Post Docs from
Harvard, Oxford, Rockefeller and the NIH.
Inducing Revolutionary and Disruptive Programmable
Solutions
TrioxNano’s technological solutions will induce two
disruptive revolutions in the next 5-10 years. The first
revolution is the ability to program medicine in real time,
this improves the therapeutic window of most medicine. It
is currently being tested in TrioxNano’s lab on human
cancer cells. The program codes are based on previous
literature knowledge for example in the case of TNBC
cancer (a very aggressive breast cancer), literature states the
abundance of proteins like Nucleolin, Mucin1, PDL1 on the
membrane of these cancer cells.
TrioxNano uses this knowledge and creates programs that
are uploaded onto its modular particle so that patient who
presents for example with Mucin1in her cancer will receive
the Muc1 related program. But oncologic literature
(accumulated human knowledge) is still very limited and
that is the reason TrioxNano developed the second
technology which complements and further enhances the
potential of PCPM programmed medicine!

40. The second revolution called “tissue derived programming”
is a data revolution that will allow TrioxNano to transcend
past the current knowledge gap and comprehensively
differentiate diseased from healthy tissues. This revolution
could only commence once the ability to program medicine
was achieved. Tissue derived programming allows it to
upload programs that can differentiate traits whether they
are known or unknown to literature expressed on the target
tissue AND not expressed on the healthy tissue surrounding
it.
such as TNBC that are known to date to present 2-3
proteins can be targeted by the many yet undiscovered
proteins today!
Utilizing Disruptive, Novel and DNA based Technology
TrioxNano’s technology is based on DNA machinery, the
pandemic has proven the advantage of RNA vaccines
compared to older technologies of attenuated virus. RNA
vaccines present a small percentage of the potential offered
to humanity by DNA based nanotechnology. The
Remembering that human knowledge to date is lacking,
TrioxNano is just at the tip of the iceberg as to
comprehensively describing all the proteins expressed on a
specific tissue such as a tumour. In the case of a cancer
patient, different metastasis have different traits and the
cancer cells keep dynamically evolving based on the
treatments being given to the patient through time. Though
proteomic technologies allow differentiating thousands of
known proteins at a time, it does address treating these and
required a further degree of complication to address the
correct treatment to the diagnosed trait. TrioxNano’s
technology allows it to choose and upload the correct
sequences out of 10^35 different sequences.
This revolution means the dependency on the current
human knowledge (literature) can be bypassed, and cancers
technology is so disruptive and novel that to date there is no
competition, though Dr. Farfara believes the situation will
not stay the same and in 3-5 (which is the time it took to
create the knowhow and expertise to stabilize it)
competitors will follow.
Concise Advice to Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Dr. Farfara advises to aspiring entrepreneurs to start by
finding the right team. He considers that being people-
oriented is the most important value of a business leader.
He tells them that failures will usually teach them more
then success, therefore persistence and perseverance are
required. He asks them to stay dedicated to their ideas and
beliefs no matter what and if they have the option choose
disruption over incremental technological projects.
