ªTo make a sentence negative in
 Spanish, you usually put “no” in
 front of the verb or expression.
ªIn English you usually use the word
 “not.”
ªNo me gusta cantar.
ªI do not like to sing.

ªTo answer a question negatively, in
 Spanish you often use “no” twice.
ªThe first “no” answers the question.
ªThe second “no” says,
 I do not … (don’t).”

ªThis is similar to the way you
 answer a question in English.

ªDo you like to write stories?
ªNo, no me gusta.
ªNo, I don’t.

 more negatives after answering “no.”

 like either of two choices, use ni…
 ni:
ªNo me gusta ni nadar ni dibujar.

  • 2. Negatives ªTo make a sentence negative in Spanish, you usually put “no” in front of the verb or expression. ªIn English you usually use the word “not.” ªNo me gusta cantar. ªI do not like to sing.
  • 3. Negatives ªTo answer a question negatively, in Spanish you often use “no” twice. ªThe first “no” answers the question. ªThe second “no” says, I do not … (don’t).”
  • 4. Negatives ªThis is similar to the way you answer a question in English. ª¿Te gusta escribir cuentos? ªDo you like to write stories? ªNo, no me gusta. ªNo, I don’t.
  • 5. Negatives ªIn Spanish, you might use one or more negatives after answering “no.” ª¿Te gusta cantar? ªDo you like to sing? ªNo, no me gusta nada. ªNo, I don’t like it at all.
  • 6. Negatives ªIf you want to say that you do not like either of two choices, use ni… ni: ªNo me gusta ni nadar ni dibujar. ªI don’t like either swimming or drawing. ªI like neither swimming nor drawing.
