• Universal studios was founded Carl Laemmle on April
30th 1912 and it is one of the oldest movie studios in
America.
• On March 14th 1915, Universal opened the worlds largest
motion picture production facility “Universal City
Studios” which was sat on a 230 acre converted farm.
• It’s previous owners have been: Independent, Decca
Records, MCA, Universal Studios Inc and Vivendi
Universal.
• However On May 11th 2004 the primary stake in the
company was sold to General Electric which was
parented by NBC.

• Originally the company was founded as “Société
Pathé Frères” which translated means the Pathe
Brothers Company, on the 28th of September
1896 by 4 brothers known as
Charles, Emile, Theophile and Jacques.

management of films.
