6 Best Foods for Your Teeth

  1. 1. 6 BEST FOODS FOR YOUR TEETH An apple a day keeps the dentist away!
  2. 2. Food Affects Your Teeth  What you eat not only affects your health, but your teeth as well. There are many things to consider when you’re trying to figure out what’s healthy to eat and what’s not.  So how are you supposed to know what kind of foods are good for your teeth? These next six slides will give you a pretty good indication of what teeth-healthy foods you should be consuming:
  3. 3. 1. Fiber-rich fruits.  Foods rich in fiber act like detergent in your mouth. They help stimulate saliva flow which is actually your best natural defense against cavities and gum disease. Here are examples of fiber-rich fruit:  Prunes  Pears  Mangos  Apples  Raspberries
  4. 4. 2. Fiber-rich vegetables.  By creating extra saliva, fiber-rich foods help neutralize the acids and enzymes attacking your teeth. Saliva contains traces of calcium and phosphate, which help restore minerals to areas of your teeth that need them. Here are examples of fiber-rich vegetables:  Artichokes  Cooked winter squash  Frozen, cooked broccoli  Frozen, cooked brussel sprouts
  5. 5. 3. Dairy products.  Dairy products contain calcium and phosphate which, as stated in the previous slide, help rebuild and restore your teeth through providing minerals. Here are some examples of great dairy products:  Cheese  Milk  Plain Yogurt
  6. 6. 4. Green and black teas.  These type of teas contain polyphenols that interact with plaque bacteria. Polyphenols help kill and suppress bacteria by keeping them from growing and producing tooth-eroding acid.
  7. 7. 5. Sugarless chewing gum.  Sugarless chewing gum is great at generating saliva, and it helps removes particles (or leftover food) from your mouth.
  8. 8. 6. Foods with fluoride.  Fluoridated foods help strengthen the enamel on your teeth and therefore keep your teeth from getting cavities easily. Here a few examples:  Water  Powdered juices (that don’t have a lot of sugar)  Dehydrated soups  Powdered cereals  Seafood
  9. 9. Strengthen Your Teeth Today  Now that you know all these foods can help strengthen your teeth, go to a grocery store and pick up a few of these items. It’s never too early to start taking better care of your teeth.  Also remember that it’s important to visit your family dentist every six months. Good eating and oral hygiene habits alone are not good enough to keep your teeth strong. Visit your dentist as regularly as possible.
  10. 10. Set Up a Day to See Your Dentist  If you haven’t been to your dentist in a while, book an appointment with him today.  If you’re looking for a new dentist, go to mcbridefamilydental.com and set up an appointment online. It’s that easy, so don’t wait!
