Ways Walt Disney
Made the World a
Better Place
When one hears of “Walt Disney”, you can’t help but get a little bit joyful possibly crack a slight
smile. He is considered one of the greatest people of the 20th Century. Walt worked hard at
making the world a better place. He did this despite overwhelming odds and at a time when the
world was in chaos as it entered WWII.
Here are 10 ways Walt Disney made the world a better place.
This was Walt’s greatest gift to mankind. He challenged everyone to dream.
Walt had large ambitions. He dreamed big and went after it with everything
he had.
If you know how to make the world a better place, you need to be willing to
dream big and then put everything you have into fulfilling that dream.
“If you can dream it, you can do it.”
#1: Dare to Dream Big
It is one thing to talk about your hard times, but it is a whole different matter to be a living example of
persevering through difficult times, and still stay positive. Walt went through unbelievable challenges
before he was 30. Through all of this he didn’t give up on his dream.
Have you been kicked in the teeth recently? If so, take heart…the greatest entertainer of the 20th
century has had days similar to yours. He didn’t give up and neither should you.
“Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride
from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and
myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner.”
Learn more about this incredible event at The worst trip of Walt’s Life.
#2: Living Example of Perseverance
Life is not all fairy tales. Walt also new this. In fact, almost all his movies encompass a character who
dream’s big in the race of insurmountable adversity. Walt showed us that by believing we can
accomplish great things, we can do the seemingly impossible. Remember, Dumbo flew, Pinocchio
becomes a real boy and countless princesses find their princes. These characters endured despite
their insurmountable obstacles
Are you experiencing adversity? If so, it just might be one step, out of many, on your journey to fulfill
your dream.
“You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may
be the best thing in the world for you.”
#3: Didn’t hide the fact that Life is hard
Walt worked incredibly hard but he definitely knew the importance of family. He had two
daughters and he loved reading to them. Despite his busy schedule, he was a constant
example showing us the importance of staying balanced. Family had an important place in
his life and he never lost touch with his kids.
In your desire to build your business, never loose touch with your family.
“A man should never neglect his family for business.”
#4: Recognized the Importance of Family
Did you know that most of Walt Disney hit films were not written by himself or his staff? Walt
typically used stories that originated in Europe and found a better way to tell them, primarily through
movies. Walt realized that the original story was good, but he knew how to tell it better. Walt
improved on what already existed to make the world a better place.
Many people think that in order to be successful you have to invent something new. That is not always
the case. With utmost respect to Walt Disney, sometimes, it is a better mousetrap that really makes a
difference in your business.
““Whenever I go on a ride (at Disneyland), I’m always thinking of what’s wrong with the
thing and how it can be improved. That is how I generate some of my best ideas.”
See Disneyland Opening Day Disaster
#5: Improving on What Already Exists
There is no doubt that money has an important element in success. But if it your primary
goal, you will never have complete fulfillment of your dreams. You will not be happy,
either. Walt knew that improving lives and helping people is what counts. He inspired
millions to dream big and to go after their dreams. His theme parks are a living example of
dreaming big.
“Disneyland is a work of love. We didn’t go into
Disneyland just with the idea of making money.”
#6: Money was not the ultimate goal!
We all have different memories growing up and hopefully, we draw on ones that are
positive. Walt wanted to appeal to the child in all of us. He wanted to make people
happy and he did this by creating stories that brought to a land of fantasy.
“I don’t make films primarily for children. I make them for the child
in all of us, whether we be six or sixty.”
#7: Make people happy by appealing to the child in all of us
When you get cheated it is easy to let your heart become hard. Don’t let it! Walt was
cheated, deceived and taken advantage of throughout his life. But he didn’t let it get
the best of him. He made films and entertainment experiences that showed the best
of people. Walt constantly strove to see the best in people and that is why he was
loved by so many. Don’t let those who have cheated you define your remaining days.
“The worst of us is not without innocence, although buried
deeply it might be.”

#8: See the Best in People
People are the best part of life, and they can also be the worst. Surround yourself with
people you trust and work with them to make the world a better place. If you want to
become truly successful, you will need others to make it happen. Don’t let you setbacks
keep you from developing relationships with others. Learn from them and continue to
press forward towards your dreams.
“You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the
world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.”
#9: Recognize the Importance of People
Walt knew how to have fun and how to encourage other people to not take life so
seriously. After all, life is short. He also knew that America, due to its founding principles,
had opportunities other countries didn’t.
Take time to have fun and responsibly enjoy life to the fullest.
“Laughter is America’s most important export.”
#10: Have Fun
