  2.  Oscar-Claude Monet was born on 14 December 1840.  He was a French painter & a founder of French impression paintings  The most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movements philosophy of expressing one perception before nature.  His painting Impression, Soleil Levant (impression sunrise) which was exhibited in 1874 in the first of the independent exhibition mounted by Monet & his associates as an alternative to the Salon de Paris.  Monet ambition is to make French country side and led him to adopt a method of painting by making different changes in the same scene such as changing seasons.  From 1883 he lived in Giverny, where he purchased a house & property & began a vast landscaping project which includes Lily work.  His painting The Water Lily Pond is one of his best known work. 2

  4.  Francois Augusta Rene Rodin was born on 12 November 1840 and he is popularly known as Augusta Rodin.  He was a French sculptor.  As Rodin is considered as the progenitor of modern sculpture.  Rodin never set out to rebel against past as he was a progenitor of modern era sculpture.  He was schooled and took as craftsman like approach to work.  Although he was good In craftsman but he was never accepted into Paris foremost school of art.  Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent deeply pocketed surface in clay.  Rodin work were so criticized during his life time.  The most original work of Robin was depart from traditional themes of mythology and allegory.  After departion he modeled the human body with realism and celebrated individual character & physicality.  Due to his human model he was in controversy with surrounding , but he refused to change his style. 4

  6.  He was born on 7 January 1266.  Better known as Giotto.  He was an Italian painter & Architect from Florence in the late middle ages.  He considered first in the great artist list during Italian Renaissance.  Giotto’s contemporary Giovanni Villani wrote that Giotto was the most sovereign master of painting in his time who drew all his figures & their posture according to natures.  Giotto’s masterwork is the decoration of the scrovegni chapel in Padua also known as the arena chapel, which was completed around 1305.  He fresco cycle depicts the life of the virgin and the life of the Christ.  It is regarded as one of the supreme masterpiece of the early in Renaissance.  That Giotto painted the arena chapel and was chosen by the commune of Florence in 1334 to design the new campanile of Florence cathedral are among the flew certainties about his life. 6

  8.  Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452.  He was an Italian Renaissance polymath : painter. Architect, Musician, Scientist , sculpture, Mathematician, Engineer, inventor.  He began his painting career in about 1469.  His father was Ser Piero.  His mother was Caterina.  He was educated very well in his youth and was finally apprenticed to Andrea del Verrocchio in 1446who was a painter & sculptor.  In 1478 Leonardo become a master in art.  In 1482 Leonardo began to work for the duke of Milan, Ludovico stoza.  While in Milan Leonardo Acquired many apprentices & began many paintings including The virgin of the rocks.  He worked on this one masterpiece from 1495 to 1497.  There in Milan he also painted the last supper.  Leonardo was and is renowned primarily as painter. 8
  9.  Among his work, the Mona Lisa is the most famous & most parodied portrait.  He also served with a group of artist to decide where the famous statue created by Michelangelo David.  Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity.  He conaptualised a helicopter a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator the double hull and he outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics.  He made important discoveries in anatomy, civil engineering, optics and hydrodynamics but he did not publish his findings.   11.  Paul Klee was a Swiss born artist and was born on December18 1879, Munchenbuchsee Switzerland.  His highly individual style was influenced by movement in art that included Expression, cubism and surrealism.  He is known for painting, drawing print making.  Hus father was a music teacher and mother was an artist.  Paul Klee was a good musician, writer and teacher.  Klee was a natural draftsman who experimented with and eventually extensively.  His lecture writing on form & design theory.  He and his colleague Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky both taught at the Bauhaus school of art design & architecture in Germany.  His work reflect his dry humor and his sometimes child like perspective his personal moods & beliefs and his musicality.  His famous paintings are as follows:- 1.   13.  Pablo Diego Jose Francisco DE Pauula Juan Nepomuceno Maria de Loss Remedios Cipriano de la Santisima Trinidad Ruiz Picasso know as Pablo Picasso.  He was born on 25 October 1881.  He was a Spanish painter, Sculptor, Printmaker, ceramicist and stage designer.  He is the one of the greatest and most influential artist of 20 century.  He is known for co-founding the cubist movement.  The invention of constructed sculpture and co-invention of collage.  His famous works are the proto-cubist les Demoiselles d Avignon (1907)  One of his most famous work were Guernica (1937), a dramatic porrayal of the bombing of Guernica by the German and Italian Air forces during the Spanish civil war. 13

  15.  Henri emile benoit Matisse was a French artist, who represented along with the other famous artists, the French culture.  Henri matisse was born in 1869 in a small French town.  His parents were hard workers & well off.  Having finished lycee, he went to Paris to study law. He also worked at a law office.  Matisse’s discovery of his true profession came about in an unusual manner.  He began to paint in 1889. he said late “From the moment I held the box of color in my hands, I knew this way my life”.  Two years later in 1891 Matisse returned to Paris to study art at the academic Julian, but left 1 year later.  Matisse began painting still lives & landscapes in the traditional, Flemish style at which he achieved reasonable proficiency.  In 1896 Matisse was elected as an associate member of the societe Nationable , which meant that each year he could show paintings at the salon de la societe without having to submit them for reviews. 15

  17.  Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 Zundert, Netherland.  He is known for his painting and drawing.  He belongs to the post impressionism period as well as realism, Impressionism.  In just over a decade he created about 21000 artwork including around 860 oil paintings most of which date from the last 2 years of his life.  His paintings includes landscapes, still life's, portrait & self portraits & are characterized by bold color & dramatic 7 expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundation of modern art.   19.  Michelangelo was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect & poet.  He was born on March 6, 1475 Caprese Michelangelo, Italy.  He belongs to the high Renaissance period.  Michelangelo as the greatest artist of his age and even as the greatest artist of all time described by several scholars.  He is the best documented artist of the 16 the century.  He sculpted two of his best known works, the pieta & David before the age of 30.  He also created two of his most influential frescoes in the the history of western art “ The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel” in Rome & The last judgment on its altar wall.  He succeeded Antonio da Sangall, the younger as the architect of St. Peter’s Basilica.  Michelangelo was the first western artist whose biography was published while he was alive.  He also belongs to Italian Renaissance, Mannerism. 19

  21.  He was born on June 7, 1848 Paris, France.  He was famous for his painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, engraving.  He belongs to post impressionism, Primitivism, Synthetism period.  Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinct from impressionism.  He spent 10years in French, Polynesia and most of his paintings from this time depict people or landscape from that region.  Gauguin art become popular after his death.  Gauguin was an important figure in the symbolist movement as a painter, sculptor, printmaker & writer.  He was also an influential proponent of wood engraving and woodcuts as art forms.  He known for bold colors, simplified forms & strong lines, he didn’t have any art formal training. He died on May 8, 1903 at the age of 54 in French, Polynesia. 21
  22.  Jean Auguste was born on August 29, 1780 in Montauban, France.  He was a French Neoclassical painter.  He belong to the Neoclassicism, orientatism movement.  Born into a modest family in montauban, he travelled to Paris to study in the studio of David.  In 1802 he made his salon debut and won the prix de Rome for his painting. The ambassadors of Agamemnon in the tent of Achilles.  By the time, he departed in 1806 for his style revealing his close study of Italian and Flemish Renaissance master.  While working from Rome, he regularly sent paintings to the Paris salon, where they were faulted by critics who found his style bizarre and archaic.  He was recognized at salon in 1824 when his Raphaelesque painting of the vow of Louis XIII was met with acclaim. 22

  24.  He was born on February 25, 1841 Limoges, France.  Pierre auguste Renoir commonly known as Auguste Renoir.  He is known for his painting.  He belongs to Impressionism movement.  He was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the impressionist style.  He was the father of actor Pierre Renoir filmmaker Jean Renoir.  His father Leonard Renoir was a tailor of modest mean.  Auguste Renoir talent was encouraged by his teacher Charles Gounod.  In 1862 he began studying art under Charles Gleyre in Paris.  Renoir had his first success at the salon of 1868 with his painting lise with a parasol (1867) which depicted lise trehot, his lover at the time.   26.  Rembrandt was a Dutch, draughtsman, painter and print maker.  He was born on July 15, 1606 Leiden, Netherland.  He is considered one of the greatest visual artist in the history of art and the most important in Dutch art history.  His contributions to art came in a period of great wealth & cultural achievement.  He belongs to Dutch Golden Age Baroque movement.  He was influenced by the work of the Italian masters & netherlandish artists who had studied in Italy like Pieter Last man, the Utrecht caravaggists and Flemish baroque peter Paul Rubens.  Rembrandt’s portrait of his contemporaries, self portrait and illustration of scene from the bible are regarded as his greatest creative triumphs.   28.  Marc Chagall was a Russian. French artist of Belarusian, Jewish origin.  He was born on July 7, 1887, Liozna, Belarus.  He belongs to naive art, surrealism, cubism, expressionism, fauvism, modernism, modern art.  He is known for his painting & stained glass drawings.  For decades he had been respected as the world’s pre-eminent Jewish artist.  He also did large-scale paintings including part of the ceiling of the Paris opera.  Using the medium of stained glass , he produced windows for the cathedrals of Reims & Metz, windows for the UN and the art institute of Chicago & the Jerusalem window in Israel.  His wife name is Bella Rosenfeld.   30.  Salvador Dali was a Spanish surrealist artist.  He was born on May 1, 1904 Figueres, Spain.  He belongs to surrealism, expressionism, post-impressionism, impressionism, realism, cubism, dad.  He was know for his painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, writing, film, jewelry.  Some of his movies were age of gold, destino, babaovoand so on.  Salvador Dali painterly Skill are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters.  He is also best known for the striking 7 bizarre images in his work.  His best known work, the persistence of memory was completed in august 1931 and is one of the most recognizable surrealist paintings.  His education was done in Spain at san Fernando school of fine art.  He died on January 23, 1989 at 84 in Figueres, Spain. 30

  34.  Full name of Marcel Duchamp was henri- Robert Marcel Duchamp.  He was born on July 28, 1887, Blainville crevon, France.  Movement he belongs to were cubism, dada, conceptual art.  Marcel Duchamp was a French American painter.  Duchamp is commonly regarded along with Pablo Picasso & henri Matisse as one of the three artist who helped to define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening decade of 20th century.  Duchamp wanted to use art to serve the mind.  His partners were 1.
