Homework Grid for Class 23 – May 2011          Name: _________________________________       Due Date: May 31st 2011<br />Reading * Every nightRead one of the following:-Newspaper article-Magazine article-Chapter from a bookOnce or twice a week have someone in your family ready to you.Spelling *Every night-Learn your weekly spelling words by writing them out every night and practicing their definitions ready for Friday’s spelling test.Maths *Every night-Learn your timetables for the week. -Each week will be a different number.-There will be a test every fortnight.Housework *Every nightHelp at home by doing one of the following:-Help make dinner or school lunches-Do the dishes or the dishwasher-Set the table-Fold the washing-Make the bedsHealth and Physical ActivityTry a new sport or game at least once during the month. Examples:-Oztag-Netball-Tennis-Basketball-SoccerMusic-Learn to sing a new songOr -Learn to play piece of music on a new musical instrumentCommunityDevelop a recycling system for your family and ensure all recyclables are sorted appropriately, including food scraps.FamilySpend at least half an hour per week playing with each member in your family. Examples:-Play a game of sport-Play a board game-Play with toys-Play with a pet-Make a fort/cubby house.Creative Arts ProjectMake a piece of artwork of your favourite animal using materials you have in your home and bring to class at the end of the month. You could use:-Magazine cut outs-Crayons, markers, coloured pencils-Scraps of material, wool, lace-Different coloured paper/card-Anything else you can find (ask your parents first)Internet Research – the environmentResearch one area of the world where the environment is at risk, examples include: Amazon rainforest, Great Barrier Reef, Borneo jungle, somewhere in your local area, or any other example.Answer the following questions:-Where is the area?-What is happening to the area?What is causing this?-What animals/plants are threatened?-What can you do to help?Writing- SuperheroWrite a creative story (at least 3 pages in your workbook) from the perspective that you are a superhero and have super powers.Things to think about:-What is your name?-What is your super power?-How will you use your super power to help others?-Include a situation in which you get to use your super power, what happened?HSIE – NewspaperFind a current events topic that features at least twice in the world section of the paper within a week.-Using information from these articles create one of the following:-A poster supporting one view in relation to the topic-A cartoon depicting the topic-Write another newspaper article that may be written about the topic-Write a short speech from the perspective of one of the people involved-Make a collage with images and words representing the topicParents CommentsStudent Signature:___________________________________________ Parents Signature:__________________________________________Date:____________________<br />
