International Conference of Educational Innovation in
Agrarian Topics
The members of the organizational committee of the International Conference of
Educational Innovation in Agrarian Topics invites professionals from the natural, social,
agricultural and humanities sciences linked to agricultural sciences education to submit their
papers. These should be related to one or more of the four thematic axes that will be
discussed in the conference.
The four thematic areas of the conference and specific questions within each one are
presented next, with the purpose of guiding the preparation of papers. However, the paper is
not restricted to those questions, since they are only a guide. Any other question that is
related to the thematic axes of the conference is welcome.
Four thematic areas
1. Student-centered education
The development of constructivistic theories has had an impact on the role of the student and
the teacher in educational contexts. Currently, the student is expected to be the protagonist
in the classroom, be responsible for their own learning, while the teacher fulfills a role of
enabler. Research, reflections and strategies about student centered education will be
explored within this thematic axis that, considering its benefits inside and outside the
classroom.
• What is the importance or impact of student-centered education?
• Currently, is university education following learner centered principles?
• What do teachers need in order to implement student-centered approaches?
• What are the future prospects regarding this issue?
• What are the main benefits of student-centered education?
• What is the role of the teacher in student-centered education?
• What are the beliefs of a teacher who follows (and does not follow) student-centered
principles?
2. Innovation in the continuous development of the teacher
Teacher training involves constant updating, not only in their specific field, but also in
pedagogical matters. This thematic axis will focus on educational innovation as an important
aspect for the continuous development of the teacher. The main practices, proposals and
concerns of the teachers will be reviewed to innovate in their training with the aim of
improving the teaching-learning process.
• What does it mean to innovate in the continuous development of the teacher? And why
should we innovate in this field?
• What innovative methodologies exist in the continuous improvement of the teacher?
• Has the participatory research-action methodology achieved its objective as an innovative
approach in teacher improvement as a professional?
• What is the advantage of implementing ICT in the continuous development of teachers?
• Which are the new proposals that aim to improve the educational practices of teachers?
4
• What future prospects are there regarding this issue?
3. Sustainability and environmental management in education
Currently, it is not only important that education considers development as a production
outcome, but also that the reflection on the impact of decisions on the environment and the
sustainability is taken into account. The main objective of this thematic axis is to explore the
best ways to approach issues such as sustainability, environmental impact, moral and ethical
awareness in the classroom. This will allow contributing to the development of responsible
professionals committed to their environment.
• What does it mean to generate environmental awareness in education? How can it be
achieved?
• How do universities address this issue today?
• Is it a transversal theme, integrated to all the courses?
• How can the concepts and practices of eco-efficiency, sustainability and environmental
awareness be introduced in the teaching-learning process?
• What future prospects are there regarding this issue?
4. Integration of research and extension in teaching (IRET)
One way to enrich the teaching process is to integrate aspects such as research and
extension. Integrating research into teaching involves including findings and / or research
processes in the development of the courses. Teaching and extension are integrated when
the university community contributes to the development of its context. In this conference,
proposals that integrate the teaching and research, teaching and extension processes or a
combination of the previous two will be discussed.
• What approaches exist for IRET?
• How are research and extension in education currently being integrated?
• What conditions and requirements are necessary to ensure this process?
• How are the results of the IRET evidenced?
• What future projections exist with respect to the IRET?
Modalities of participation
There are two kinds of participation.
