and Standards
Why are dress codes important
• Conveys a sense of professionalism
• Helps make a good impression on business clients or customers
• Prevents inappropriate dress in workplace
• Factors such as poor personnel hygiene, sloppy appearance, negative outfit choice, and
body language all can contribute to a candidate not being hired.
• How an employee dresses can impact how competent a person perceives that employee
to be
(Center for Professional Excellence, York Collage of Pennsylvania)
Most policies include..
Formal policies
• A suit
• A jacket
• Pants or a skirt
• Unwrinkled Clothing
• Minimal accessories
• Dress shoes / heels
Formal policy
includes
Formal policy is to guide the
employees to dress up during formal
meetings and meeting clients.
Includes full suit with Jacket and
formal long sleeves shirt and tie for
male employees
For female employees, a Dress or
pants with jacket is acceptable.
Minimal accessories recommended

Business Casual
Business casual includes appropriate dress guidelines for day-to-day
wear.
Employees are advised to dress up to Formal wear when and as
required.
Business Casual Guidelines
• More relaxed fit, button down shirts
• Khakis
• Ties not required
• Loafers or boat shoes allowed
• Heels not required
• Unwrinkled clothing
Male Employees
• Plain Long Sleeves shirts preferably in light
colors
• Worn tucked in
• Regular office slacks for formal events, khakis
or chinos allowed during business casual setting
• Loafers allowed during informal setting
Ties
Ties are generally not necessary for business casual, but if you have any
formal meetings to attend to or meet any important client wear a tie.
When attending a function, if you are not sure whether to wear or tie
or not, you can always wear a tie and discreetly walk by the room
where the function is held. If no one else is wearing a tie, discretly
remove yours and put it in your bag or other discrete place, don’t stuff
it in your pocket and let part of it hang out.
Shirts
Long Sleeved shirts are dressier than short sleeved shirts and are
appropriate even in summer. Choosing white or light blue solid, or
conservative stripes is your safest bet. Polo shirts tucked in, of course
are acceptable in more casual situations.
Socks and Shoes
Wear dark socks, mid-calf length so no skin is visible when you sit down
For shoes, leathered black or brown shoes are only acceptable. No
sandals, athletic shoes or hiking boots are allowed. Wear shoes to
match color of trouser.
Facial Hair
Just at with interviews; facial hair, if worn should be well groomed.
Know your industry and how conservative it is; observe men in your
industry if you are unsure what's appropriate or are considering
changing your look
Jewelries
Wear a conservative watch. If you choose to wear other jewelry, be
conservative. Removing earrings is safest. For conservative industries,
don’t wear earrings. Observe other men in your industry to see whats
acceptable.
Details to look professional.
• No missing buttons, no lint; and don’t forget to remove external tags and
tacking stiches from new clothes.
• Cloths should be clean, neatly pressed, and fit properly, neither tight,
baggy, short or extra long.
• Perfume or cologne should be used sparingly or not at all.
• No odors on cloths
• Don’t smell like smoke.
