I- INTRODUCTION
The nature club and eco-clubs mainly focus on the involvement
of school children in the long term conservation of nature and it aims to
create green consciousness among them. Teachers are responsible for the
proper functioning of nature clubs in their schools. They should confirm the
active participation of each and every student in club activities. The
students ranging from 11 -14 years must be the members of the club. The
nature – club and eco –club should conduct lectures, seminars practical
works like making organic compost, propagation of seedlings in the
nursery, planting programmes (community a forestation programmes)
conducting environmental quiz programmes, identification of medicinal
plants and promotion of herbal garden in school etc. eco-clubs or nature
clubs are organization of individuals who love nature and are interested in
nature conservation, nature – related activities and development of natural
resources. Eco-club may take up a number of activities such as collection
and preservation of specimens and pictures. Arranging films and video
shows related to nature study. Eco-club in schools provide the students
with opportunities to take part in environment related activities and
programmes. They help in developing the qualities of leadership, creativity,
planning organizing and team work. Students develop understanding and
appreciation of the ecosystem and the interdependence of the ecosystem
and the environment. Besides providing leisure time activities eco – clubs
help to supplement knowledge obtained in the classroom. Students become
interested in nature and the environment and become more responsible
individuals with respect to use of natural resources.
5. 1.2. NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE
Environmental education is an essential part of every
pupils curriculum. It helps to encourage awareness of the environment,
leading to informed concern and active participation in resolving
environmental problems. We need the school children to share and develop
the motivation form school about various environmental issues which are
the challenges of today and prepare them for the future. To take care of the
habitat and its surroundings which becomes a major part of environmental
education in both primary and upper stages of school education. Eco- clubs
and nature clubs provide the students with opportunities to take part
environment related activities and programmes.
1-3 STATEMENT OF THE STUDY
The study is entitled as role of nature club, eco – club in
developing environmental awareness among high school students.
1-4 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
1. To create green consciousness among children.
2. To promote eco-friendly behavior among children.

II-1 METHODOLOGY
Methodology refers to the use of different kinds of methods to
undertake a study. Here the method is survey – method.
II- 2 TOOL USED FOR THE STUDY
For the present study the investigator used the tool is
questionnaire.

Sample is the students of 9th and 8th standard studying in G. H.
S. S., Ramapuram and M. S. M. H. S. S

Many of the students have positive response to the question. In
Ramapuram School, there have a eco-club and Nature Club and the
students have the members of the Nature Club. 20% of the students have
negative response to that question. 75% of the students agrees that, their
school have a good medicinal garden. 25% of the students disagrees with
this question. 95% of the students says that, they should celebrate
8. environmental day and school, distribute plants. Few students have
negative response to the question. In this day they did not go to school.
75% of the students say that their Nature club conduct environmental quiz
programmes. 25% of the students disagrees with that question. 60% of the
students agrees that, Eco-club organize skits related to the consequence of
unproper waste disposal.

CONCLUSION
Eco-clubs in schools provide the students with opportunities to
take part in environment related activities and programmes. They help in
developing the qualities of leadership, creativity, planning, organizing and
teamwork. Students develop understanding and appreciation of the eco-
system and the interdependence of the eco-system and the environment.
Besides providing leisure time activities, eco-club help to supplement
knowledge obtained in the classroom. Students become interested in
nature and the environment and become more responsible individuals with
respect to use of natural resources.
