OF COLLEGES

2. INTRODUCTION
Now-a-days, selection of an educational institution is made by students,
not just according to their ambitions & aspirations, but also by the
reputation of the institution.
In other words, the quality or “brand” is an important aspect on which
the choice of college depends.
A cause-effect diagram can be used to identify the causes behind
“branding” of colleges(effect).
3. The low/high brand perception depends on the feedback given by the following-
1. Media
2. Senior students and Relatives
3. Coaching Classes
4. Cut-off scores
5. Quality of students passing out of the institution
6. Placement and salary
7. Faculty
5. THREE ROOT CAUSES
1. Media : Newspapers, television, online reviews.
Media plays a significant role in branding an institution.
• It highlights the choice of college of the top rankers and thus a
specific set of colleges becomes the top rankers’ choice over the
years.
• Thus, seeking admission in these colleges becomes the dream of
many students.
6. 2. Cut-off scores:
This is another root cause of low/high brand perception of colleges.
• Colleges which offer courses which are sought after by greater number of
students, have good placement record, better faculty, etc, have high cut-off
scores and are perceived as high brand.
•As a result, students undergo rigorous training to clear the entrance exams that
are relevant to these colleges.
7. 3. Placement & Salary:
This is the greatest cause of low/high brand perception of colleges.
•Each and every individual wants to get the best possible placement and be
the most successful in professional life.
•A college having a better placement record is preferred by students, as they
believe that the name of their college would help them get a better placement.
8. RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS FOR
ROOT CAUSES
1.MEDIA
Students should not develop their interest in a particular
course due to the fake illusions spread by media, people
surrounding them etc. they should have interest in that course
.
9. 2.CUT OFF SCORE
As you cannot judge your tomorrow by your present , students
choose science stream or forced to get into science field just
because they score 90+ in SSC or 95+ in science subject
even if their interested in commerce/arts
10. 3.PLACEMENT AND SALARY
Students usually select the best course i.e. which offers the
best placement in the best college. They should select the
course of their interest instead of focusing on placements,
salary and scope in the future. For ex. If someone is
interested in electronics but because of demand and
placement offered by computer science companies student
select CS.
Students refuse to take their course/ college of interest due to
high fees instead they can take education loan
11. RECOMMENDEDED SOLUTIONS TO
OVERCOME ROOT CAUSES
Student should interact with their seniors and relatives and
preferably should undergo counseling and should attend seminars
before choosing a college. Some colleges ensures for best faculty
,100% placement and many more facilities . Student should properly
investigate.
They should not refuse a college/course due to time invested in
traveling. They can have advantage of hostel / PG facilities provided
by college,
12. . Students usually select a college based on the duration of college
and if majority of people of their society go for a particularly course
that doesn’t mean they are also made for that course.
They should essentially select a college depending on their interest
and not on the placements.
They should focus on facilities like library , interest shown by faculty
to explore knowledge of students, extra curriculum activities provided
by college.
Student should not get attracted by infrastructure of college
13. LESSON LEARNT
After conducting a servey on this project and listening to student's response ,
we thought it was of utmost importance that he make them understand that on
which basis they should choose their future college instead of running behind
colleges with high brand name!
Later when we had explained our basic motive behind our project, not only us
but even the students had learnt alot like:-
1)There is a lot of competition everywhere. But at end the people who do
something different are the one's that stand out from the crowd. So instead of
taking the well beaten road, make a new road. Choose a college which you
think is right for you and work hard to achieve it!
14. 2) It is very important that one should always follow his dreams. Just because
people think that your dreams aren't worthy enough and you should do
something which has alot of respect in everyone's eyes, you shouldn't give up
on your dreams. Choose the stream that you like and you would never get
bored working in it.
3)Just because your friends are going to some other college, dosent mean that
you should follow their footsteps and go with them. You should choose the
college that you like and you want to study in.
4)Well money does play an important role in your life. It can buy you many
things but not everything! That's why it is very important to do something that
gives you happiness. Choose a college which provides the best education for
the stream that you like and understand and learn it.
Scoring marks will get you a good job but understanding the subject will help
you keep that job and excel in it. So choose a college which has good teachers
who can help not a college with a big market value!
