  4. 4. VERBAL COMMUNICATION It means communicating with words, written or spoken. Verbal communication consists of speaking, listening, writing and reading. Takes place through face to face conversation, group discussions, Counselling, interviews etc Process of exchanging information between two or more persons through written and oral words.
  5. 5. CHARACTERSTICS OF EFFECTIVE VERBAL COMMUNICATION  Consider the objective  Be sincere  Use simple language, familiar words  Be brief and precise  Assume nothing  Use polite words and tone  Say something interesting and pleasing

  7. 7. ORAL COMMUNICATION  Oral communication implies communication through mouth. It includes individuals conversing with each other, be it direct conversation or telephonic conversation. Speeches, presentations, discussions are all forms of oral communication.
  8. 8. FORMS OF ORAL COMMUNICATION  Face to face communication  Interviews  Telephone conversations  Grapevine  Negotiations  Meetings  Lecture / speech  Presentation  Conferences / seminars / workshops
  9. 9. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION  A medium for communication that entails the written word. Letters, emails, and manuals are forms of written communication. Need for written of communication, the old style of communication did not have public relationship, advertising, technology and many aspects of modern day communication.
  10. 10. FORMS OF WRITTEN COMMUNICATION  Email (Electronic mail)  Website  Memorandums  Letters  Reports (both business and academic reports)  Notices  Minutes  Circulars  Manuals  Handbooks
  11. 11. ADVANTAGES  More personal and informal  Makes immediate impact  Provides opportunity for interaction and feedback  Help us correct ourselves (our messages according to the feedback and non-verbal cues from the listener)  It is fastest and less expensive
  12. 12. DISADVANTAGES  It can be quickly forgotten  A word once uttered cannot be taken back  There is no legal evidence of oral communication  Impact may be short lived  Very difficult to be conscious of our body language
