• Manizales is the capital of Caldas Department in Colombia.
• Elevation= 2,160 m ; Population: 552,155 appx.
• Currently is the main center for the production of Colombian
coffee and a very important hub for higher educational
institutions.
• Counting with 5 big universities, including the best university
in the country and one of the best 10 universities in
Latinoamerica.

5. Historically Manizales has always been a
very conservative city, main religion is
Roman-Catholicism. Always tied to the
conservative political party, this, according
to some historians and local people was the
reason behind most of the fires that
consumed the city, liberal-party member
would ignite fires to take revenge of their
conservative rivals.

Manizales, different Dairy factories, chemical companies, textile,

19. • International theater festival:
The Manizales Theater Festival is held every year between
August and September. The event, which was created in 1968,
originally brought together renowned writers such as Pablo
Neruda, Miguel Angel Asturias, Ernesto Sabato, and Mario
Vargas Llosa. Large theater companies including Cuadra de
Sevilla (Spain), the Bread and Puppet Theater (USA) and the
Jerzy Grotowski's Polish Poor Theater have come to the Festival,
which currently invites around 50 national and international
theater companies to participate.
