• Endurance sports -
A condition caused by depletion of glycogen (blood sugar) stores in the
liver and muscles which manifests itself by sudden fatigue and loss of
energy
• In the race of life, we often call it “Burnout”
• Nehemiah leads the Jews to “build the walls” after “Hitting The Wall”

• Zerubbabel leads the 1st group back to Jerusalem in 538 B.C. (50,000-
80,000)
• The Temple is rebuilt for worship & sacrifices by 516 B.C.
• Ezra leads a 2nd group back in 458 B.C. (7,000-8,000) (4 months journey)
• Nehemiah leads a 3rd group in 445 B.C.
Nehemiah 1:1-4
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah: In the month of Kislev in the twentieth
year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, 2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came from
Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant
that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.
3 They said to me, "Those who survived the exile and are back in the province
are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its
gates have been burned with fire."
4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and
fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
Nehemiah 1:11
11 O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant,
and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your
servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man."
For I was the king's cupbearer.

• Artaxerxes notices Nehemiah’s countenance:

• Sanballat (Samaritan leader) and Tobiah (Ammonite leader) taunt and
threaten Nehemiah and Jews
– Ammonites are descendants of Lot & his daughter

9 But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this
threat.

10 Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, "The strength of the laborers is
giving out, and there is so much rubble that we cannot rebuild the wall."
11 Also our enemies said, "Before they know it or see us, we will be right
there among them and will kill them and put an end to the work."
12 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over,
"Wherever you turn, they will attack us."

great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters,
your wives and your homes."

every man and his helper stay inside Jerusalem at night, so they can serve us as

he went for water.

9. The Plan of Hope & Salvation

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

23a For the wages of sin is death,
 Death in this life (the first death) is 100%.
 Even Jesus, the only one who doesn’t deserve death, died in this life to
pay the penalty for our sins.
 The death referred to in Romans 6:23a is the second death explained in
Revelation 21:8.
