3. Recruitment and Selection
Recruitment refers to the process where potential applicants are searched for, and
then encouraged to apply for an actual or anticipated vacancy. Selection is the
process of hiring employees among the shortlisted candidates and providing them
a job in the organization.
The success of any organization depends on its employees. When an employee is
well suited for their job, the entire company can enjoy the benefits of their
unbeatable success. Recruitment and selection help organizations choose the right
candidates for the right positions. Therefore, understanding the difference
between recruitment and selection is essential to reduce any losses for an
organization.
4. What is Recruitment?

7. About the company
“Ananda in the Himalayas” is a luxury destination spa in Narendra Nagar, Uttarakhand, set in the Indian
Himalayas.
Ashok Khanna and Neelam Khanna
“Ananda Founder and Managing Director”
The idea was conceived in the year 1989. The location was chosen as it is the birthplace of Yoga, where people
have visited for centuries to be healed and to find rest and rejuvenation.
In India a “spa” meant different things to different people. However, to us it had to mean one thing, and one
thing only - holistic wellness for the mind body and soul.
The pillars of Ananda are – Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedanta (a philosophy of life). Another vital aspect is the
cuisine - Our ancestors believed that the way and what we eat largely contributes to a healthy life, and is an
important part of wellness. The last and most important element essential to Ananda’s being are its people.
Each and every member of the staff needed to understand, imbibe and live by the Ananda philosophy. They are
the single most important reason for Ananda’s success.
Ananda opened its doors in 2001 and has since received numerous awards and worldwide recognition. It
remains at the forefront of innovation in health and wellness and strives to constantly improve.
8. Objective of the study
The core objective of the internship is to fulfill the requirement of the BBA program as
prescribed by the OIMT. Apart from this, the internship was completed with the objective of
getting practical knowledge in the HR department of “Ananda In The Himalayas”. More
specifically, the objectives of the internship were as under:
Clarify personal interests, skills, and competencies, and their implementation toward
development of career goals.
To gain ideas from the experienced people working for HR department.
To understand the challenges faced by the HR department.
To understand the different types of training provided to the employees.
Development of personal standards of professional and ethical behavior required in the
workplace.
Assumption of responsibility for continued learning and professional development.
9. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Sources of Data:
Data are collected from both primary and secondary sources –
a. Primary Sources
o Observation of the organization.
o Discussion with officials and concerned experts.
a) Secondary Sources
o Annual report
o Newspapers
o Internet
o Textbook
Collection of Data:
Primary data I collected from observation method, face to face communication with the officials.
Secondary data was collected from Ananda’s websites and other related websites and documents.
10. FINDINGS
Biggest strength of Ananda Himalayas right now is its brand reputation being only spa in India
(which is 50%) although it has to improve on weaknesses and less productivity than its
competitors.
During the process of recruitment I find difficulty in screening the applications because many
candidates have similar objective and knowledge about the job role.
In Ananda I observe that many of the candidates have a keen interest in getting employed at
Ananda as it is a reputed hospitality in Uttarakhand State.
While Recruiting and Selecting I find out that many candidates want to work in Ananda as to
give a kick start to their career.
11. QUESTIONNAIRE
o Why do you want to work for our company?
o Why are you looking for a change?
o What is your biggest achievement so far?
o What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
o How would you rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10?
12. CONCLUSION
In a nutshell, this internship has been an excellent and rewarding experience. I can conclude
that there have been a lot I’ve learnt from my work at Ananda. Needless to say, the technical
aspects of the work I’ve done are not flawless and could be improved provided enough time. As
someone with no prior experience with Human Resources whatsoever I believe my time spent
in research and discovering it was well worth. Two main things that I’ve learned the importance
of are time-management skills and self-motivation.
Recruitment as being one of the major topic is required most of the organisation. Hence the study
helped in understanding the various aspects of Recruitment and Selection process. In the Ananda
the sources of recruitment is effective, the internal selection of the organisation also in an
economical means which also reduce costs, only after looking at the efficiency of the existing
employees towards the company and its sincerity that employee will be selected. Also, the
employee of the Ananda are satisfied with the Recruitment and Selection process. Also, they are
well aware about the various sources and methods of Recruitment and Selection.
