4. Press Release:
BRAND BENGALURU TO GIVE CITY A NEW IDENTITY, A NEW LOOK
Bengaluru joins New York City, Melbourne, Singapore, and other global cities to have its own tourism logo. The
Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka will unveil the crowd-sourced design.
On December 24, 2017, Bengaluru will wear its brightest, best colours, and take on a new identity.
The Government of Karnataka, and its Department of Tourism, will unveil the city’s very own identity - a unique design
that will firmly establish Brand Bengaluru on the global tourist map, and give every resident a sense of pride. The identity
will be unveiled at an exclusive street festival - the Namma Bengaluru Habba, at the Vidhana Soudha.
Namma Bengaluru a city of vibrant cultures , colours and flavours. A city with timeless beauty, majestic architecture,
heritage, lush parks this where the old and new coexist. As the world’s most dynamic city, today Bengaluru is constantly
on the move. While staying true to itself, the city inspires its people to aspire and reach for their goals. Indeed a city that
lets you be you. Celebrate the city that celebrates you.
It is all these that the Department of Tourism will capitalise on, in its push to take Bengaluru forward, and to reiterate its
commitment to the city and its unique culture and heritage, and showcase the art, music, tradition, technology, and food
that has made Bengaluru the fastest growing metropolis in the country.
Shri Priyank Kharge, the Minister for Tourism and IT/BT, explained the reasons for the identity. He said, “Like ‘I love New
York’, New York is written in a particular way; London, Amsterdam, Lyon, Melbourne is written in a particular way. How
do I start identifying Bengaluru outside?”
“Today, after months of brainstorming and planning, we have the perfect identity that captures the spirit of the city and
its people. What’s more, the design comes from the very people of the city. It is a crowd-sourced, creative identity that
truly represents the deep connection the city and its residents have. "The logo will help to leverage Bengaluru's identity
better and create a brand value that could, in turn, stimulate the economy and create jobs by attracting more footfall,"
he added.
The final logo was one of many submitted by citizens, designers, and others in an open, transparent contest. The
department of tourism and the city’s Tourism Advisory Committee gave extensive briefing and advice, and let the
creative speak for itself.
Shri Kharge, talking about the design, said, “Brand Bengaluru is not just in its coffee shops and shopping malls. It is in
every citizen and in every street and locality. The new logo will bring that forward, provide an opportunity for citizens -
both the old and the new, the newcomer and the long timer, to really get in touch with the city and its ethos.”
Now, the logo will be unveiled through a unique street festival - the Namma Bengaluru Habba.
To be inaugurated by the honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Siddaramiah, the festival will be held against the
magnificent backdrop of the Vidhana Soudha - the symbol of Karnataka’s stable and people-centric government.
Namma Bengaluru Habba will be a traffic-free, safe and secure public space for the citizens. Performances, artists, arts,
handicrafts, organic markets, and more will create the lively setting against which each visitor will reaffirm their faith and
belief in the city, and join others in creating a sustainable, dynamic future.
5. Movie screenings, live performances, storytelling sessions, interactive workshops and more will bring together family
and friends, and help turn strangers into friends.
The festival will also feature special performances to showcase the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Karnataka, and to
take visitors back - if only for a short while - into the city’s past.
And for those looking for great bargains, there will be over 20 stalls and a flea market. The highlight of the stalls will be
organic and eco-friendly products including terracotta jewellery, natural soaps, organic grains including millets and millet
based products, jute, plants, and handicrafts. Food trucks and stalls will cater to every craving.
A great festival, and an all new identity - just what is needed for Bengaluru - the most vibrant metropolis in the country.
